O

"Only" oak 😂
lol not complaining in any way. Just kind of like having the same thing for dinner all the time. That’s all. Old reliable. After at least a couple of years.

I’ll unload on Thursday. Not enough time to empty and stack/cover before dark. Plus a bit tired. Got to work tomorrow. Supposed to get 2+ inches of rain tomorrow so it’ll stay dry in my truck.

Now got to take a shower. Caught a chill in the cold dampness from sweating through layers

Hour& half drive to the job site today. Then rode the ball from 9am till 5pm with a 20min lunch break. Craned down 3 large red maples. 30 40'' dia at the base with 5-7 leaders on each tree. I didn't bring a stick of it home. Didn't want it. If my horseshoe driveway wasn't blocked off with firewood, I would have brought home a pickup load. Nice for camp wood sales. Speaking of the driveway, I worked on that too. Got home a bit after 6:30 PM, let the dogs out, ate dinner, and then loaded up the pickup with another half cord. It's in the basement. With the rains incoming tomorrow, I'll be stacking along with working on more stuff around the house. Plenty to do.

Finally finished splitting and stacking what I have here. That makes between 6 3/4 and 7 cord so far this fall. My plan to run down to the tree service pasture for more is nixed for now as my wife's car is having an issue so she is driving my beast truck to work.

I whined to my wife via text earlier about how cold and windy it was. Mother Nature chuckled and said "Oh little man, you think THAT was cold and windy...". So she froze my Kool aid, sent a snow squall through, dropped the temperature, and kicked the wind up some more 🤣. I'm back inside and loaded the stove up again.

Been rough for you people in the NE for I been watching the weather channel and Wisconsin too. Its going to get colder with a lot of "Ice water-snow" and wind gusts too. Glad you all got prepared for winter with all the work you all have been doing. Now it is time to "relax" and enjoy the season with your wonderful family's. Minnesota got real real cold too--gives me the "shivers". Put on music like that old wl does and the music thread and just enjoy...I does like cookies so I cannot hear it but I just bet its good...Love your Love Ones and Happy Holidays...clancey

unloaded and stacked the oak. Going to give it some air and sun for a couple of days supposed to be cold and dry. I’d say around 2/3 ish cord worth.

Also decided to check the chimney for build up after people saying they’re already sweeping. I didn’t sweep until the end of the season in the spring so didn’t expect much. Absolutely no buildup except a very light layer of some soot at the cap. Basically spotless. Must have good burning habits lol. The yellow tint is from the light I was using, the picture gave it a funny color.

I didn't take any photos as I didn't want to freeze them off but I tested the theory on splitting frozen wood this morning. Turns out at -10 wood just flies apart didn't have to use my big maul. And once you get moving its not so bad. I may be a winter processor from here on out.

Yes, frozen wood splits well. A day in the upper 20's or low 30's after a cold snap is great for processing and curing cabin fever.

Yeah, I may shoot for +20 in the future instead of -20. The wife thought I might be losing it...............

Yup, finally some cold weather, we were -3 this morning. After last winter when it never really froze, it is nice to get some cold! If this keeps up I'm planning to get a lot of the wood in the swamp that I never got to last year.

Not work done yet, but a future problem to deal with from the tornado damage in the Northwoods... This is right over the main trail. 20' of pine top on 2 other tree's. I hope Mother Nature will deal with it with some snow over the winter.

Mother most likely will. That's a lot of top to be held up by kindling sized branches. Doesn't look like it would shift to an even more locked position either.

2 truck loads equals another cord in the dragon's lair. That ole beast is a hungry animal.
Already started stacking too. Well, a little bit is stacked. Will proceed on and off throughout the night.

So after having redone the wall behind the (basement) stove, retiled it, taken out the rusted sagging drop ceiling, insulated the rim joist, I redid all the lighting in the basement. Lots of new boxes, three groups of lights, and one with switches at the entrance and at the stairs.

A new ceiling was put in (by a contractor), and it's all done now. Even the wife is very happy.

I cut up some dead and unbarked red oak branches that had dropped at a neighbor's place today. 7" dia, 15 ft each.
Sapwood basically gone but the heart wood is good and dry. And very hard .
Well, it rained all day, so dry is relative..
Not split yet but bucked and in my place.
Felt good to run the (gas because in his yard) saw again.

I was planning on splitting some spruce and laying down some pallets to stack on but accomplished 0 towards that goal today. We had rain and above freezing temps after a long run of freezing weather so there is about an inch of mud on top of the frozen ground I was planning on working on today. Not worth it, will try again after the weekend. Things should be frozen solid again.

Brought a partial trailer load of aspen and pine logs home from the Northwoods. All cut up this morning and will split and stack it this afternoon. Guessing it will be 1/3-1/2 cord and will finish my shoulder season stacks.

The sauce was made today so the boss was wondering if the stuffed shells were far behind so I made the stuffed jumbo shells today.
