Took advantage of the dryer/milder weather. The snow covering my log delivery finally melted. Got out there and bucked up the red oak delivery. We have a lot of rain coming in the next few days so hoping to split and stack it later this week.

Nice score. Looks to be about a half cord?

Nice straight grain stuff there. Easy splitting.

Yep definitely looking forward to splitting. My stacks are up a slight hill in my backyard and when the ground so wet there is no way the tractor will pull a full load up without slipping or making a mess in my yard.

Typical trailer loads from my tree guy average about 1 - 1 1/2 cords. I’ll find out once done splitting.

Nice free wood regardless for the 2028 burning season!

in the nwNC foothills....
there is a frigid winter storm coming......below freezing highs for 8+ days, lows in singles....

yesterday, broke down some red oak chunks into splits for continuous feeding stove...

Today, broke down some large chunks into medium splits of red oak, white oak, beech, maple and a few softwoods...

Final day of 2024 is 'Chainsaw Day'. The rounds and crotches and a few tree hearts are getting broken down into divisible size.....Every single one has scars from years past failures....lol....

They will burn great, and for extended burn times..... but not until they actually fit into the stove.

But the saw will also trim limbs of some more hurricane pine treefall....
These will be for getting temps up in the mornings in this cold, burning wide open, hot and fast.
Get them into the truck and that should be a good day....

We have a possible 10 inches of snow with winds coming in until Friday so we put in another two loads of maple this morning.

We lost most of our snow with the warmer weather with rain (picture 4935) after checking the fluids in the RTV, I loaded up some sand for plowing purposes ( pictures 4936 & 38 ) and then it was off to a certain trail with the weed eater, I usually keep it plowed in the winter but the weed eating today was done for the wife and the dog if they choose that trail when out for a walk.

My next job was cleaning up the garage, there's more room after the cleanup so hopefully more stuff that I never use will get tossed. This will be a job I start in 2025 each week, thanks @clancey . 👍

Did this a little over a month ago. Dropped one of the dead standing Ash trees from the swamp while the drought was ongoing. Heartwood was solid, but degraded as you moved out from the center. Still it will burn. Will probably be used in 2026/2027 season

Wanted to get another cord in the basement. Also wanted to do some work in the woodyard too. Never happened. After a slow morning start and feeding the furnace, I worked underneath the house today. Back and forth between both crawlspaces, 2-3 times each. Ran new heating cables on the waterlines under the kitchen. The ends go over the foundation and into the main crawlspace of the 1st addition. That one's a 60' trek by the time ya crawl around everything. Some of which is belly crawling.

Woodyard work tomorrow. Promised myself I'd do something everyday around the house. Even if only a couple hours.

Scratch the woodyard tomorrow. Rain all day. Actually starting tonight.
Plenty to do in the house. Or, in the garage .....
My list has no end. It's like one of those old school public bathroom hand dryers. A continuous towel roll. LOL

I had just got rid of some pictures about a week ago so this is the best I have.
