A little before and after action. Got some rounds from my neighbor and took a maul to quarter them and then used the splitter. Glad to finally get a good chunk of it split and stacked. This is going to be the start of my "getting ahead pile" while I try to ration my seasoned stuff for this year.

Yard work. And lots of it today. This time of year I get killed with leaves. I finally decided to invest in a big backpack blower to replace my husqvarna 125bv handheld. Went with a Stihl BR800X. Couldn’t be happier. Cut my time to a 1/4 of what it took me with the old one. Bagged 13 bags of leaves yesterday after blowing the entire front and backyard, and bagged 87 bags today. Needless to say I am tapped. Probably another 30 bags worth on the ground, but ran out of bags. Still have 2 oaks and 3 Norway maples that have their leaves. So more to come.
Picked mine up Friday and I agree. This thing will move PILES of leaves. I just got done with the first tank of gas for a gentle break in and will see what it will really do now.

Nice. I let mine eat right out of the gate after a gentle warm up haha

Today I nailed down 4 bundles of shingles for a layover patch. Did this for a friend, to help hold him over till he's ready to replace the old farmhouse roof. Not a course of action I would normally perform ..... layovers.

What does this have to do with firewood/stove related work? It was a trade for a decommissioned 120gal/420lb LP tank. I'll be using this as the burn chamber on my second OWB build. This one will be a gasser. I've been looking for this size tank for 6yrs. Been studying gasifier furnaces for equally as long.

I'm a bit stoked over it.

Since we have rain coming in later in the week, we put in one load of cherry and then two loads of some real crappy pine. I'm hoping the temps will be warm enough that we can burn pine during the day with a load of cherry at night until the end of November unless we run out of pine, that's when we'll make the switch over to all hardwood.

After I got home, a couple of days after the wind storm, it's been clean up around here. I cleared the pine that fell right in front of the house and dropped a hanger that was broken in the wind. It was right over the splitter so I didn't have a lot of choice to leave it for later.

After I got it winched down to the ground, I was standing with a coffee and found this just up the hill.

This one should be...... interesting to get on the ground.

Off to split some wood now.

I didn't do any work outside today but I did help the wife pick up the last few items for Thanksgiving, after I had a late lunch, I made some soup.

I got another trailer load of maple and mulberry last weekend. We got it split and stacked; a good start on 2025/2026.

Nice! Do you check the moisture content before burning? If it was ash I'd say you should be good, but maple and mulberry take a little longer (depending on the variety of maple...). It looks like a good open spot at least. Personally I try to give hardwoods another year over recommended because I split big and don't top cover. So ash 2 years, maple & honey locust 3 years.

I got a Stihl BG56 handheld last year and it does a great job moving leaves on my property. I run Trufuel premix in it. No smoke easy starting.

Most of my day was spent with the weed eater in my hands, I still have a bunch that needs trimming but that will wait until after the rains.

We did put in more chitty pine today.

Nothing accomplished around the house today. Left for work before dawn and returned after the sun had set.

Since you mentioned it Nick, those pics look more like honey locust a bit. Could just be the camera....
The bark doesn't look like the mulberry I'm used to.

Made a bucket of kindling from some pine I have. Gonna pick up a couple more 5 gallon buckets and make some more. Also refilled the rack for my indoor “on deck” rack on the porch. Lots of N/S loads in the near future mostly white oak and Norway maple.

With more rain coming in tomorrow, today we put in two loads of pine an another two loads of cherry.

I spent 7 hours down in the woods with my new chipper getting rid of brush from pine tops and blow downs.

Worked like a champ.

The only issue is the pin hitch. DR says "used to pull your chipper around your property". Ok, if your place is like a fairway it would be great. My property, not so much. The thing is made of cottage cheese. The steel is at BEST 1012. It's bent but will be a good base for re-design.

I cooked the soup @clancey , I also made another one of these, basically a chocolate roll. The two chocolate rolls I just made will go to other people, one is for a neighbor and the second roll will go to a small business in town.

I spent a few hours with the chipper, yeah new toy, starting to work brush along the road. They had to cut some trees for power line clearance then they took the trees but left the brush. It's a mess and looks like crap. Several more days will do it for that. While I was down there I saw a 10" pine by the driveway that is good a big rotten area in the trunk where it was skinned by some equipment. I need to drop it next to the drive before it comes down across it in a wind storm, while I'm gone at work. I don't want that call from the wife when it will take 10 minutes to lay down.

Loaded the pickup with a heavy face cord from my pile of splits. Backed up to the bilco doors to toss them in the basement. Feeling a bit lazy. It's already after 9pm and I'm just sitting down to eat with my dysfunctional family, LOL. Since I'm working 5mins away from home tomorrow, I'll just leave the truck loaded. Lil road wind for the win.

Oh, more important to me, I brought home my 120gal LP tank. I have a good plan for this gasser OWB build. Many more parts and material yet to gather.

I started working into that pile of trees right in front of the house today. 7 hours about beat my ass LOL. Cut a bunch of rotten trunks and took them out back to let them finish turning into dirt.

Chipper is doing its job but needs rework with wider tire tracks and bigger tires. Wrestling it around by hand on the cute little 5 inchers is not fun.

Yesterday I laid down about 5sq of roofing. The roof was already loaded with bundles. Total of 20sq all loaded on one side and, spread out through out the roof deck. The opposite side wasn't sheathed yet. Along with the bundles I nailed down, I had to move a bunch out of the way too. On returning home, I tended the wood furnace, let the dogs out, and finished my coffee. After, I went out and unloaded my truck of all the splits. Came inside for dinner after going out with the Mrs. to pick it up. Then I loaded the 8' pickup bed again with more splits. Unloaded these into the basement with the rest. Overall, close to a cord. That was a 15hr day. Feels like I'm being punished.... LOL

Just filled the garage back up and burning a lot right now temps went from the 40's and 50's to the mid 20's. Going to be a cold week but thats's ok I'm ready for things to freeze and burn some wood.
