Reloaded the porch rack after work. Should be good for another 10-14 days.

Bucked up and stacked the last load from the city delivery. Nice sized maple logs and what I think was cottonwood....gotta take the not so good with the good when the deliver it for you. Will split it up later this winter. Sorry, no pics.

No wood related work done today.

I must say though, being in the tree business, I pick and choose what I want to haul home. I've said it before.... gotta get my dump truck fixed and do twice the load hauls.

Those small logs look appealing compared to the monster stuff I'm working on right now.

Got another drop from the tree service guy today. Looks like basswood, box elder and maple. I may start an ID thread for the maple because I think there's at least 2 different varieties.

Broke a freshly sharpened chain today. I suspect I didn't get it on the sprocket quite right. Dang it! No injuries or other damage. Cut and split down to manageable chunks this afternoon after yardwork this morning.

Dang that's some big heavy wood, no need to go to the gym.

Looking at the chunk of maple on the left it looks like what we have here (Quebec), we call it Sugar Maple, same that we tap for syrup. Awesome firewood. Unfortunately I am pretty far north for it so they are somewhat rare, and what you do see tends to be small, like 5-6 inch round.

Last week I posted a pic of the pile I need to deal with in front of our place. Outside it was a dead standing pine that I really didn't want to drop on top of the mess until I was able to start working it all down. I took a hard look at it and found worse case, it wouldn't hit the house.

Fast forward to this morning, post 60 mph wind night and the pic my wife sent me.

Yep, it missed by what I figured.

Whew ....

Guess it's work to be done this weekend.

Brought home a 6-8'' dead silver maple limb from a pruning job. It's still in the pickup, as to my time is limited in what I can get done daily. Been bringing a large wheelbarrow load of splits to the house from my yard, per day. Just enough for the evening warm up, the overnight load, and a few splits leftover for the morning. The limb in the truck will stay there for tomorrow's ride to work. I'm working with the service that is local. It's rare I get any wood for my truck usually sits in their yard. If there's some dead wood available, I'll try and push to bring it to my truck by day's end.

This evening I fed my furnace a bunch of silver maple splits. I fooled around with the air inlet damper. I held it wide open like the thermostat would be calling for heat. Furnace behaved well like this. I would have to get a new thermostat, and install the new parts I have for the inlet damper. It's been run manually since I bought the house. Solenoid I bought is still in the box, 3 yrs later. Need to figure out how to wire in the T-stat. Hoping this will save me some wood. Currently, the oil furnace fan is controlled to cycle from the wood furnace's fan limit switch.

Brought over a load to the porch of the good stuff. Oak maple and hickory with a splash of black birch. I’ll use this to supplement spruce stash I have been tapping.

Love that setup, I don't have a tractor yet but I store all my stuff in totes with the hopes that I eventually can do it just like you do.

Neighbor was having some tree work done and offered to drop this beautiful red oak in my yard. Truly free to me. I couldn’t say no, I tried lol. I really didn’t need the wood but this stuff is too easy to say no and it’s straight with zero rot.

I’ll cut and split the rest of it up Monday/Tuesday next week

The tote setup is new this year. I still stack traditional but load the tote and bring it to the covered porch and draw from it until it’s empty. I should’ve done it sooner! One less time to handle the wood.

Split and stacked some more, then cut some more. Lather, rinse repeat... Gotta be approaching 4 cord in the last 2 weeks. Took yesterday off due to weather.

Pulled the carb apart on the new to me splitter before starting today because it pulses funny. No change.

Another 28 bags of leaves today and brought them all out front for pickup. Still have more to do once leaves are all off the trees…
I’d of had as much at my folks house, but since about 1989 when I took over lawn care responsibilities I just mulch them with the lawn mower. A lot less work and expense.

This amount of leaves is not easily mulched with a push mower. I can bag them much faster with less bending down emptying the mower bag. I use a dog pooper scooper for the leaves. Works fantastic for large piles. I can fill and pack a bag solid in about 1 minute or so when in large piles

I saw some lady the other day filling bags with some giant strap on claws. Must be an as seen on TV item. They did seem to work well.
