We had 18.4 for a low this morning, the basement temp started off at 72 with both temps up here at 68. The first load in the wood stove has sugar maple, beech and some ironwood in it.

28/80 going to be opening window this morning. It was still 75 in here this morning when I got up but I loaded the stove with 6 splits of Oak for some reason?😂

Ok, so, last I was here, I was being admonished for my loose use of the term “topping” a tree. So, I went to the tip/ dump this morning. I messed up and it was a closed morning so I had some time to drive around and take photos.

It’s a very good time because everyone here is scrambling to get everything cut before the onslaught of spring.

I would say, at least 75% of the oaks around fields in this area (Mayenne, France) are palliard. I mean it’s everywhere! And obviously in varying cycles.

And it’s the oaks that are mainly done this way. I’ll share some pics after I get home or over the next few weeks and will certainly start a new thread on the subject of palliard and coppice; terms I did not previously know, but we’ve all seen it.

well and I got that WRONG. The term is “pollard”. Farmers in this area have been doing something different; they cut most major growth above the main trunk and these oaks just keep going

As far as current burn, I just lit the first fire since March 4th

I been outside trimming trees and property borders before the leaves pop

Chestnut/white oak/ beech split on bottom
Elm/Oak/Poplar/Apple kindling just now all lighting up

Stove has been cold for a bit, but having a cold start overnight fire tonight. Mix of oak, red and silver maple, and ash. Lows in low 30s tonight. Probably only a couple more nights left for me this season. Boiler is off for the year, on the mini splits.

What model drolet is that, and how’s she burn overnight? I’m looking at the ht3000 and trying to get a feel if it will burn 12+ hrs.

They make great fire starters! I have huge white pines in my backyard. Free supply!

1800i. If I pack it solid with the blower on low after it peaks and air turned low, I’ll still have a STT of 250 after about 8-10 hours with plenty of coals. This is without a damper. I have had well over 12-14 hours between fires and have gotten it to go without kindling. This is a 2.4 CF firebox.

Nice performance with a non-CAT 2.4 cu-ft stove! I’m drawn to the HT3000 because of the 3.5 cu-ft box, and price relative to a blaze king princess… so many decisions, haha.

It's 23.4 out tonight with a forecast low of 13, the basement temp is starting out at 73 with the temps up here 68 & 70. The Liberty has four splits of beech with three splits of ironwood in it for the overnight heat.

Firing up the charcoal again right now with paper and kindling after cleaning out some ash. Will be a 3/4 load of hardwood for overnight again, looking like mostly ash and a piece of beech and honey locust.

Not a lot of solar gains yesterday or today. Did a half overnight load last night in the 42apex and with the wife home all day today I did another shoulder season load this morning. Dialing the cat stove down as low as possible to get minimal heat for an extended period of time. The half overnight load still had enough coals for me to restart this morning without any kindling or fire starters.

32 this morning. Small load of shorts, red oak and maple with a piece of birch. 650 STT. Maybe one reload later since heading to 40’s. Move a 1/3 cord under the rear deck yesterday to replenish my emergency wood stash. Wood was over 2 1/2 years old. Will benefit from another 8 months before I need it.

25/67 Had it a little too warm in here last night so no fire since yesterday morning. Cold start with 5 splits of Oak should get me through til tomorrow morning.

The last fire I had was wed afternoon. I knew we would have temps in the 30s wed night and Thurs night so I stuffed the box full of oak and maple and set it on low and slow. Just arriving home this fri am and it’s 66 inside, cloudy and damp outside but may get sunny this afternoon. If the heats off, I’m doing well. Will see what the day does but I may do a load of spruce this afternoon/evening. We’re not done yet here, usually not until April.

We had 25.2 for a low this morning, the basement temp was 72 with the temps up here 67 & 68 this morning. We'll go without a fire today and we'll cycle the furnace when we need it.

I did take some ashes out this morning, I'll dump a few loads of snow on them with the tractor and then check them again before I put the tractor away for the day.

Had a small fire yesterday morning. Came home and house felt chilly so revived this fire from about 21 hours ago from a few coals buried in the ash built up from very small kindling working my way up to this with various species of maple and maybe a piece of oak.

Shop’s up and going, it’s high 40s outside, but like 70 inside. Planning to do some work out there as the temps drop.

Right now there’s two maple splits and a rouge piece of pine I found in the stack.
