28 degrees, full load of ash and beech. I lied earlier. I did scrape a bit of snow and slush off the driveway after I cleaned the snow off the solar panels.
Never heard of Shag Bark Maple, could that be another name for Silver Maple? I’ve burned lots of that and it’s ok but it’s considered a soft Maple and doesn’t have the coaling or burn times of Hard Sugar Maple.Workshop is burning some punky oak I had. Been burning since about 3, I hooked up with a local tree company early this morning and got a truckload of shag bark maple. Warmed the shop up, then sharpened my chain saw after work in my nice warm shop before chopping the truck load up to rounds.
Anyone have experience with shag bark? How’s it burn relative to oak?
Yea, I think it is the same as silver maple. Thanks!Never heard of Shag Bark Maple, could that be another name for Silver Maple? I’ve burned lots of that and it’s ok but it’s considered a soft Maple and doesn’t have the coaling or burn times of Hard Sugar Maple.
Hope you brush your flue often burning wet wood in your Vista! It is cold again for the coming week. Odd load today. Someone down the street had some juniper that had apparently broke off and fell on their house. Most of it had no bark so I hauled it one block down the road to my house with it hanging out the back of my hatchback and bucked it in the 12" miter. Made the garage smell really nice. It is pretty damp stuff but once it catches, it burns surprisingly long and then just leaves white ashes behind, no coal. I kinda like that part.
