Before the first cup of coffee this morning it was 25 out before dropping to 23.4. The basement temp started off at 70 with both temps up here at 68.

The first fire this morning has some ash, cherry with some birch in it.

It's 31.3 out tonight, the basement temp is 75 with the temps up here 68 & 69. The wood stove has some beech, birch, one round of ironwood with some maple in it for the overnight heat.

We had 29.1 this morning, the basement temp was 72 with the temps up here 67 & 68 this morning. The first fire had 1 split of beech, a round that looked like ironwood and the rest was birch.

Tonight we could have a low of 11, that's from NOAA, thanks @Todd .

Around 930 last night I put in a full load of spruce. House was 67 and temps were in the upper 20s overnight. I woke up this am and the house was 70 and the spruce was mostly gone. Off to work without a reload.

It is cold again for the coming week. Odd load today. Someone down the street had some juniper that had apparently broke off and fell on their house. Most of it had no bark so I hauled it one block down the road to my house with it hanging out the back of my hatchback and bucked it in the 12" miter. Made the garage smell really nice. It is pretty damp stuff but once it catches, it burns surprisingly long and then just leaves white ashes behind, no coal. I kinda like that part.

Full hardwood load again tonight. Mostly ash with a couple smaller beech rounds and one mystery wood. Rain and snow with wind all day today, will be in the 20's by morning.

A few nights ago, I didn't have an overnight fire but the heat that was in the basement kept the furnace from kicking on until the morning, we had a low of 17.

Last night I had an overnight fire with some beech splits, the furnace never kicked on with the temps up here 69 & 70 this morning, the outside temp this morning was 25.6.

After taking some ashes out that went in a garbage can this afternoon, I finally started our first fire tonight, I think the high for today was 44.

Workshop is burning some punky oak I had. Been burning since about 3, I hooked up with a local tree company early this morning and got a truckload of shag bark maple. Warmed the shop up, then sharpened my chain saw after work in my nice warm shop before chopping the truck load up to rounds.

Anyone have experience with shag bark? How’s it burn relative to oak?

32/70 another load of Aspen for the evening. It’s been just cold enough to maintain a 12 hour burn schedule without roasting me out for about the last week. Had a little snow last night but it all melted by mid afternoon.

Never heard of Shag Bark Maple, could that be another name for Silver Maple? I’ve burned lots of that and it’s ok but it’s considered a soft Maple and doesn’t have the coaling or burn times of Hard Sugar Maple.

Yea, I think it is the same as silver maple. Thanks!

It definitely felt a little lighter than the black Birch/oak I’ve been stacking lately… but free wood is good wood. I wish I had more time today, i probably could have gotten 5+ more loads. Oh well, they’ll be more trees.

Arrived in the Northwoods just before 8:00 pulling the trailer to 6" of snow and some slightly deeper drifts. Will snowblow tomorrow morning and hopefully have a successful Internet install in the afternoon... Stratford 2 is warming up with some kindling on the charcoal and will get a full hardwood load shortly after I have a late dinner.

32 yesterday morning and rainy and cool in the afternoon. Had the stove going with some small splits of oak and maple. Want the house up. Had a cord delivered today. Replit some and started stacking during my lunch today. Feels good getting some exercise.

Hope you brush your flue often burning wet wood in your Vista!

Medium size load of a mix of maple, oak and hickory this am. It was in the 30s last night and cloudy and 40s today. House has a chill to it. Calling for rain late evening and lower 30s tonight so I imagine I’ll have another fire tonight.
