Mixed load tonight, oak, spruce and maple. It’s 40, windy and damp. It’s been cloudy all day and the house is at 65. We’re expecting 30 overnight and low 40s with wind all day tomorrow so a full load is in. Our last fire was a medium sized load on Tuesday. After working on an outside project all day after getting out of work this am it will feel great. 🍻🍻

I just restarted the stove. It was 51 for the high today, 40 now and getting windy again. A low of 31 is forecast.
Wind advisory.

Tomorrow will have 3 hrs above 45, but I'll keep the stove and basement warm for what likely is the last burn run of this season for me. A hot firebox cleaning fire will be had later.

Small start with one piece of spruce and three 2*2" pine sticks of 1 ft long.

Pine and three shorties of oak in the left bottom corner.
38 outside,.71 upstairs.

Stove went cold for a couple days with warm temperatures even at night. Cold and wind returns tonight. With a few windy cooler days with cold nights coming up. House is still 73 from the earlier fire (oak, red maple, Norway maple, silver maple) I lit around 4. Put in a 2/3 ish load of some silver maple , a piece of oak with some hickory to hold coals for the morning

I must say, this is first time I’ve really burned silver maple the past couple of times. It burns very hot, impressively hot, but doesn’t last as long as red maple. Paired with denser wood like oak or hickory it works very well.

The length of flame on those secondaries in the back! Pictures never do it justice of course. This fire has been sitting at 725+ STT with the air all the way down and blower on medium for 70 minutes now

That stove puts on the best show, it’s like the aurora borealis but with flame.

8 small splits of oak, maple and cherry this morning. Was 29 with windchill in the teens. 700 STT. Going to reload later with two medium oak splits and a very large long cherry split diagonally across the top. Only can do 18” E/W so larger has to be placed this way.

Outside is 39 and very windy. Upstairs is 71.
A reload with spruce.

I didn't have a fire last night, I set the furnace again after a few hints from the boss. The outside temp this morning was 15.1 with a nice breeze.

We had a few other things going on this morning so our first fire of the day has been going for about 30 minutes, 1 beech with the rest birch & maple rounds.

I did eat the last of the soup today, the wife has had enough soup since January so maybe the next thing I cook will be a stew.

The spruce wasn't done yet, so I piled the coals in the back half (I would have burned myself if in the front), added a big spruce slab E/W in the front to even out the bottom, then one big oak split and the rest some pine and some spruce.

39 now outside going down to 34. Upstairs 72.5 (as I said, the spruce wasn't done yet so I ran it higher hoping it would burn down, but it's bed time ..).

Small splits of oak, maple and cherry for the cold start. Six splits total. Burning hot 700 STT. Had a small 2” split of red oak sizzle at one end. Strange how I get a sizzler occasionally.

Fired it up again after letting the house temp drop to 70. Two larger oak splits on the bottom and four smaller splits of maple, oak and elm up top. STT just shy of 700 now. 31 outside temp high wind again today so windchill in the teens.

Still 44 and milking the coals from last night. Will probably have a small shoulder season load after dinner and a 3/4 hardwood load overnight.
