I didn't have an overnight fire so the furnace was set. This morning the temp bottomed out at minus 13, after two cups of coffee I had the first fire of the day going. The first load had a mix of maple, ash with some beech splits.
Gotta do what you gotta do, but get the flue temp up quick and keep it there...I had about 2-3 days left in my pile when my dad asked me to come over and get his tractor unstuck. He has over a hundred acres of woods but there is about 3 feet of snow on the ground here in upstate NY so it would be tough going very deep into the woods as I would have to carry everything out on my back and in deep snow. I found a small standing dead maple at the end of his driveway right next to the road so that is what I am burning for the next few days. It most definitely could have used some seasoning but once it gets going, it really puts off a lot of heat...
