Woke up to temps in the mid 30s but house full of smoke from a local wildfire. The fire is 0% contained and about 3 miles from my home. It didn’t feel right to light a fire so I turned the splits on.

Wow! I hope they get it under control! It’s been so dry up this way for a long time so it has potential to be really bad and spread quickly
Thanks. This is definitely a bit too close to home. My home backs up to this forest. 0.25” of rain in forecast tonight which should help a little bit.

32 this morning. Got STT to 600 to warm things up. Still using smaller splits and uglies with cutoffs. No fire this afternoon almost 60 and rain overnight.

I can finally post in here again! Picked up the new Ashford 30 yesterday and got her installed. After letting it warm up a bunch with a break in fire, off gassing was pretty minimal which was a suprise. But loaded her up on a small bed of coals with a I’d say half ish full box of ash at 8pm. Was in the upper 30s overnight. And dial set to I’d have to guess almost low, at 9am cat was still active with a few decent size chunks left.

After a brief forray into the low 40s, we are back into a pattern of mid 50s in the day and mid 40s at night. Back to burning electrons for the last several days and probably until next Friday. This is the latest that we have not been regularly burning in the past 30 yrs.

Crap, that's much too close. Hope the rains help them to control it quickly. Is this the Whitehouse fire? My aunt and cousins live in Wallkill. Hope they're ok. They have racing horses which can get freaked out by smoke.

We had a low of 28.1 this morning, the basement temp started out at 70 with the temps up here 67 & 68. A few small shoulder season fires before I went outside has the temps up here 70 & 71.

Starting to drizzle now. With the drought neighbors wells have started drying up to.
This is the Jennings Creek fire. Not too far away from Wallkill,, but a different fire.

Definitely makes me second guess have all this dry wood stored around my property.

We have an outside temp of 43.1 tonight, the basement temp started out at 75 with the temps up here 70 & 71. Another load of shoulder season wood is going in the wood stove.

The outside temp is 50.4 this morning with the temps up here still 70 & 71, no fires this morning. We did have some rain overnight and this morning but still need more.

Looks like we are going into the 40s from now. I finally got the new baffle installed…and I may well replace the door seal today as I have a new one. The current seal is the factory one and has done two solid seasons and still appears to be in good shape and performs well…if it ain’t broke…that spot of the seal next to the baffle is the worst area…and it still seals well…I should probably replace it just for peace of mind when the burning starts

Windy and 30s this morning. House dropped to 60 overnight so we put in a fullish load.

We're still 48 on this side of the state with partial sun and lots of wind. Front will push through this afternoon. Won't be burning until this afternoon or tonight.

Colder weather will be arriving to the PacNW by Friday. Looks like we will be getting into some more regular burning by next week.

I hadn't planned on having a fire tonight but with a cold front coming in, I had a fire after supper that's just getting down to coals. I'll be loading up the wood stove with another load of shoulder season wood.

The basement was 75 when I last checked with the temps up here 70 & 72 with the outside temp at 46.2. AccuWeather has us with a low of 33 in the morning.

Going down to around 28 tonight and breezy. Basement starting at 68 and upstairs at 66. First full load of hardwood for the season. 5 ash & 2 beech. Hoping to not hear the Mrs tell me I got the house too warm...

Took a nap around 9pm. Got up 3 hrs later. Cold is setting in outside so I lit the furnace. Silver maple, ash, and some thin red oak splits. Will add some more ash and silver maple in an hour or so. I got the "day off'' tomorrow. Will feed the furnace again in the morning.

We have a low of 33.4 this morning, the basement temp started off at 72 with both temps up here at 70. Another load of shoulder season wood is going in the wood stove.

well, I chatted with Panadero today looking for the how to video on replacing the door seal.

They told me the seal "must" be replaced annually to avoid making the old seal too hard to remove. Ugh, well, no, that's not what the manual says; actual syntax is:
"It is normal for the seal of the glass door panel to melt with use. Even though the stove can function without this seal, it is recommended that you replace it seasonally."

"Recommended" is the actual word. They got very attorney-like with me when I pointed out the different words meanings.

So, I'll be replacing the seal today...I hope it isn't too baked on after two seasons! I will surely take some photos
