Going down to the lower 40s tonight. The next week will be kissing the high 30s at night. A fire is lit with a belly of Doug fir.

Been in the 20s at night and early morning for the past couple of days. Been feeding the furnace moderately. Silver maple, ash, and some dead oak limb wood. Been balancing out the mix depending on projected outside temps. Getting home from work this evening, I fed a large load of silver. 2-3 hrs later, I added a couple more silver splits, and 4 or 5 splits of ash. Hour ago, I added some more ash and dead oak limb wood again. More oak rounds and some ash for the overnight on deck.

4 year oak is the best! BTU’s!

You must have a bin for each species of wood,! 👍

25 now. House dropped to 64 since I went to bed early. Loaded stove with a Mix of everything in my arsenal!

5 red oak splits in with one good size piece of knotty cherry. Had some coals after almost 13 hours but not enough to start on its own. Loaded the stove and held the torch in for 15 seconds and off it went with no kindling.

Second pic 13 mins later

OK, first for of the season. It’s just heating up…I’m standing by in the event something goes awry.

Poplar split on the bottom, with some 2” hazel and a 3” white oak split , Siberian elm layer with small hazel and apple on top. My top fire starter was mostly long dry apple and chips from last year’s wood delivery (ash/ oak/ beech)

I was worried wood was too wet when I started it, but clearly burning well now. If it was too wet, the glass would be black.

RealFeel sez 45F outside…Inside the living room was right around 59F.

Slight chemical doors with the new baffle and newly replaced door seal

Nice fire.
The baffle and door seal should not really give odors. I think it's dust on/in places that gets hot that you smell. Every fall I have the same.

Again, I just replaced the baffle which is coated in paint same as the rest of the stove…which the manufacturer says will “smoke” a little more than normal. When we first installed the stove, the paint curing did give off toxic fumes, for certain…for about a week

But you are right, as you know…new door seal, it’s pretty air tight…and drawing via the intake, so whatever fumes there are should be going out the chimney flue :-)

So, burning in the newly installed part is currently under way

The seal was installed with silicone. IMO, silicone caulking has a very strong, chemical odor when drying. There is a hint of that, too

I don’t see how there is any possible dust…I cleaned it pretty thoroughly…maybe more of a drying out smell, I suppose as it has been so wet here…but I certainly take your point…I didn’t clean absolutely everything

Not to mention one of the cats relieved himself on the stove last summer! Doh!

If you smell the baffle you have major problems and should not burn in the thing.
The silicone is a possibility.

I don't see how a wood stove would be inside without the possibility of dust!
I've seen cleaner operations than mine but cleaning up the dust creates dust...

I'm not thrilled to still be using this set up

I'm just smelling wood now, tho :-)

I'm happy the oak from up the hill that fell in 2018 is now burning clean

Seems all good as far I can tell…4th or 5th reload
This one is likely an overload by EcoDesign 2022 regs
Ash split in the back; white oak in the front with a stick of holly for fun

I never had an overnight fire last night so I'm not sure of any temps. This mornings low was 26.4, we did have a quick morning fire that had the basement temp at 79, once the fire was done, we went grocery shopping.

The temp up here is 68 at the moment, I might just run the furnace some and then have a fire after supper.

It's 27.3 tonight, the basement temp started out at 75 with the temps up here 68 & 70. The stove has five splits of cherry and four splits of pine in it for the overnight load.

No instrumentation on the stove? Is an IR thermometer being used?

Just know my wood from doing years of tree work and burning for heat. Currently, all my wood is still outside. Little rain this season and, lately, it's been quite breezy/windy out. I have some small stacks of wood that I hand split back in March, April, and May. Those stayed separated by species. It's what I'm heating with now. A few weeks ago, I split almost everything else I had that was bucked up. A huge mixed pile that I'm guessing to be about 15 cord. Supposed to be windy tomorrow with gusts. With an eye on the weather forecasts, I'm giving those splits all the air I can. Basement is almost ready for loading the winter's supply.

Yes, I have no instrumentation on or in the stove system anywhere. What do you suggest?

35 now with highs in the late 50’s today. Got a small split morning fire to take the chill out of the house.
