Reloaded the porch rack. I have been getting around 5 days out of one side of the racks (last loaded this one on this past Friday). Not terrible. Making a small dent in the wood supply, though.

After all the talk of the xa22 I ordered one yesterday. After the 3 tanks of gas cutting through downed trees I have at least 100 round to load out. I'll wait till it gets here. :)

Headed out to cut a bunch more out of the brush piles. Load out in the near future followed by a bunch of chipping. Pushing hard while it's still cold.

ETA
The pickaroon blew my mind on Amazon. Straight from Amazon it was 42 bucks. The fiskar store there had them at 150 bucks. WTF?

split wheelbarrow of seasoned Spanish Swamp Oak, (red)

cut up two wheelbarrow of very green, White Pine limbs....
cut up a wheelbarrow of seasoned limbage from various hardwoods..

cut up 1/2 the small end of the fallen "hickory" which actually turned out to be White Oak...
between the ten or so rounds from a branching top, the dead limbs, and the thicker hearts from lower sections of the tree....in all..
total was 1 1/2 tanks of fuel through the saw..

finished out day eyeballing the plan for splitting this fallen White Oak and getting it into the truck tomorrow...

plan to unload it Friday, get it all covered,
maybe saw up some more hurricane fall Pine if it goes like that..

I spent 4 hours working the bulldozer pile along the driveway. It's coming apart better than I expected. 6 tanks of gas and I have waaaaay more wood to move than I want to deal with but it's almost free heat. Right?

I never did get any ashes out but it was another day of plowing, we received another four on top of three or four. I did both driveways and then a bunch of trails, five hours of plowing so the warmth of the fire felt good when I came in at three. The dog wanted to go out so before I took my boots off, we went for a nice walk.

This morning after taking out ashes, I had a little workout walking behind the snow blower, that should be good for a pound or two loss.

I did finish up the trails with the tractor today, hopefully we get a break from the snow.

47 and sunny today. Almost done burning down and removing ash after a 3/4 morning load of shoulder season wood to take the edge off. Might be my first cold start since mid December. Cleaned the cap screen and top 2' of flue from the minimal buildup on this final day of nice weather.

Not really work, just getting some fresh air.
I filled the rack in the garage with solely oak. Including some huge white oak splits and chunks. 18" long, 8" thick.
Minisplit today and tomorrow (and maybe Sunday), after that it's getting cold, down to 19 for a hi and 6 for a low on Wednesday. My stove window will be clean!

Topped off the porch rack again today. Want to make sure it’s full before the brutal cold coming in starting Sunday night and lasting most of next week. Brought in some beech, ash, and a little sugar maple. I’ll probably top it off again Sunday morning some time, supposed to have rain tomorrow and then some snow Sunday afternoon and night.

Got the polar vortex coming in tomorrow and we are right in the middle or it. Getting everything ready. Cleaned ashes out of insert and Myra, loaded up wood carts, filled wood box. All set to go! Heading out after cup of joe to refill the wood wagon.

I'm gonna be moving wood today as well. Several cold days (for us down here) while I'm up north in the real cold I want to set the wife up. Stove cleanup is on the list as well.

Stay warm up there, looks to be brutal.

it's almost free heat. Right?
Let's call it free. We know the deal but, compared to sending monies to the grid, LP or oil man, it is.

Love my 193T, perfect tool for this crap.
I need to find mine and service it. Been tucked away for 9yrs. I'm sure it needs carb work from being neglected. I find my 200tC does the job and cuts better but, I need to conserve that saw for climbing only. Top handled saws are great for dealing with what's shown in your pic,
leaving one hand free for grabbing & tossing limb wood. Have 4 other to handles sitting around as well. It's in my sig. LOL

I want to go out and get some wood chores done. The wind gusts and cold are telling me otherwise. That cold snap for next week is coming though.....
See what happens.

My 193 is the first top handle I've owned among many saws. A close friend owns a tree service and a few years back he was flipping equipment to dump profit off his books. This saw was the one that hung on his chipper and I got it for 200 bucks. It had been loved on some and it's a little beast. I found that after I opened up the micro chain to a 3/8 rad coupled with a 14" bar it'll do almost all the work around here so I don't have to throw around my bigger saw.

With the colder weather coming in tomorrow, we put in two nice loads of beech firewood. Before putting in the firewood, I picked up a few more things so I can make another soup on Monday.

I think the coldest temp I see is a minus three at night and five degrees during the day so nothing like some people will get. I'm not sure what the wind chill will be but we should be inside.

Down to the wood pile today for a few hours. Had a couple spruce logs to finish up and got it done before the rain started. I still have some to go. Maybe 10 rounds left but I got the majority done at least, it felt good. The other day I was splitting after I had finished I put the tarp over the splitter and plopped a 8”x 18” “cookie” on top to hold it in place from the wind. Well my snubber valve didn’t like that I found out. Anyway I just deleted it for now until i get a new fitting. Pics or it didn’t happen, right?

Didn't due nothing today, yet. LOL
The winds died down this afternoon and it warmed up. As soon as that happened showers crept in. I have a wheelbarrows worth of wood in the lair's stairwell. No plan's to stack though. Figured it can go right to the dragon when needed. Getting tired of handling would 7x before it's burned.

Went to the store and when I got back I parked in front of my splits pile. Will do a load tomorrow. Possibly 2 in leu next week's cold snap.

Hurricane Helen came through here and took down so many trees in our neighborhood. My husband went to the mail box and saw that one of our neighbors left a pile of wood rounds out at the road for whoever wanted them. We jumped in our SXS and brought them home. My son and I got them split and stacked. I think it is oak.

This was the first round of hurricane wood my son and I got split in November. I think it may be oak but looks a lot more yellow then the other stuff.

I cut up some kindling.

Officially ran out of my properly seasoned stuff. Going to need to take some stacks from the in-laws and replace with green stuff. Hoping to get that done before the cold snap coming this week. Luckily enough, had an HVAC company come out and fix my electric heat strip issue with my heat pump system... classic wire not connected to the heat strips. At least we will be warm... (electric company is going to love me)

Heat strips at single digits! Yikes!

Heat strips at single digits! Yikes!
My system struggles below freezing unfortunately. This is one of few winters since I've had the system where it's really been tested. Way more single digit days than recent memory! Hopefully the fire cooking will keep the heat pump and strips at bay for long enough. The biggest problem in regards to that heat strip issue was a wire coming off the defrost board wasn't connected to the heat strips, so when the pump would defrost I'd be getting wonderful air conditioned air rendering all that heat pumped in useless. I did wonder if in reality it would be negligible increase in cost for that reason! 😂
