Filled up the porch tote before the upcoming cold snap. Also topped off the hardwood rack. I took some pics of fresh re-split spruce moisture content readings as well. These splits were in my basement for 48hrs. Maybe they will be ready for the 25-26 season, time will tell!

Yesterday I planned myself to get the last cord n a half pickup load in truck for the basement. 40mins ago, I let the 1st dog through the kitchen to head out through the mudroom. Mudroom is like an old shed. A traditional, no frills, farmhouse mudroom. You can see cracks of daylight through the walls. Brrr I said as I headed to the exterior mudroom door. I'm wearing a couple layers and winter hat. Pulled door open and holy crap! I don't know what the temp is and haven't checked. My body said the temp was, " I'm not going out there yet!!!"
LOL

It's all relative man! 10 feels cold when it's been 30, but feels warm when it's been -10...
Indeed. I can force myself to go out when I have to.....

The dragon's breath has warmed the house nicely. LOL

Just went and looked at some firewood. Ended up buying it, it’s close to 2.75 cords. Ash, oak, and cherry. The ash looks like it could be burnable now. Cherry not far behind. For just over 200 bucks. Just going to cost me fuel for the truck, it’s already in rounds cut t to length. That will be next week’s project.

I probably won’t need any more wood until sometime mid next season after this load.

Nice find!

Up to 11 degrees and sunny with a wind chill around 0. Have a showing again this afternoon and 3/4" of snow on the driveway so went out to shovel it to reduce liability risks. 1 1/2 hours later...Dang! That's still pretty darn cold with the wind. Keeping the inside temps OK with small loads hot & fast burning down coals, but no wonder I was struggling with keeping it warm when it was -13 and wind chill -35...

Need to fill the inside rack and clean for the showing yet.

Signed, sealed and delivered to my backyard! Ending up buying a cord just to have a good pile to finish up the season and have some left over while I process stuff for next year.
Curious how ''seasoned'' it is, this late in the season, and what it cost you.

Crane day today with a 3hr round trip commute. 2 very large silvers about 4' plus dia at the base, with 5-7 leaders out of each. Another was still good sized and 30'' dia at the base. 1st big one was in between a couple small barns, blocking the crane OP's view of most of the work. Same with the smaller silver. A lot of communication on the coms to get it done. 3rd silver, the last big one, required breaking down the crane for a new setup closer to the tree. Got a 1/3 of that one done to finish the day.

To be continued...

I'm told a year split and stacked. 295 delivered. If I wasn't desperate this season then this wouldn't be burned. I'm picking out the best stuff out of the lot just to get through the rest of the season. I think I underestimated the amount of sub 10 degree days we would have this month. Just going to creosote buster and get a good cleaning after the season. Most of that stuff will be the get ahead pile for sure. Not a bad deal though I don't think!

That's less than hardwood goes for here.

Around these parts a cord of good seasoned wood is $350. That is truly seasoned though. Although I doubt you'd find it now. There is one place, couple towns away, that always has monster piles of splits.....monster piles.
Kiln dried is 450/cord. That's from the same place I just mentioned.

Everybody showed on site between 8:15 and 8:30. Crane OP was there a little before everyone else warming up the crane. Truck did not like the overnight temps. It normally goes home and gets plugged in. Guy said it was a hard starter this morning. Took forever to warm up. The remainder of the silver maple was on the ground by 10:30ish. I helped fold up the crane and back him out of a tight driveway.

I was offered to hang and cut up the big wood to make it moveable. Choice was a half day, day rate or a full. I stayed till 2:30 and was home in an hour and 15mins.

Tomorrow I'll push myself to do outside work at home. Hand split some wood, bucking, and get the last half cord of splits in the basement from the mixed hardwoods pile. Be good to get all the wood sorted and driveway open again....can start bringing wood home regularly.

Just moved 6 loads of wood I cut out of the pile right in front of the house. A little more small cutting and one BIG cherry and I can finish the load out. A day chipping and it should be done.

I concur, the Fiskar xa22 is great! Early on the handle rang when I would sink it but hey, everything was frozen. As the wood thawed it was the chit. 2 thumbs up 👍👍

Never happened today. Went to the dump with some household trash this morning. Got back and walked around outside for a bit. Mid 20s and with a bit of nippy wind at my heels. Viewed the wood pile and kicked at a few pieces. Ones on the ground were frozen to it. After being in the cold yesterday......I wasn't into it today. I'm a slackin today. Anyhoos, tomorrow is supposed to be warmer. No regular work till Tues...... and also warmer Mon. I'll get some stuff done between the 2.

Ok, let me have it......SLACKER! LOL

Not going to hear anything from me! I've been sitting on my you know what conducting air control experiments for days...

Ahhhh......love it.
I kind of, (emphasis on kind of), feel guilty.
Then again, all those younger years gone past busting my arse outside all year, I earned it. That and i still throw down. Just not as often in the winter.

Crazy 🤯

So yesterday I was 👍👍 on the Fiskar. After an hour on the splitter I've revised, 👍👍👍. Not bending over is all worth the cost of admission.

Back at it

Crazy 🤯
That pricing is part do to there's not a lot of competition in this rural area.
When I start sales, I'll be in the same ball park. No kiln though and some other choices like half cords. I don't care to sell face cords. I might though. That and a road side stand for heating and camp wood. Priced accordingly.

Since we have a high wind watch, we put in two more loads of some very nice beech today. We're in for 4 to 9 of the white stuff, the winds will be blowing that around pretty good if we get gust past 40 mph.

Split the loads from yesterday, moved and stacked that as well as that much again of beech that was burying the splitter. If the rain holds tomorrow I'll move a bunch more and keep splitting.

Never ends but getting there.
