Yep. Until I burn next season to make space again.
I'm still doing some knotty pieces and shorties for my neighbors, and I might do a scrounge or two for them.
But my season '26-'27 is done.

That's always nice when you can get your firewood on your terms.

Yes. Luckily here one can ask for a load of logs or rounds delivered, which one can time ( a bit).
I do try to have my shed filled before the weather warms up into good drying conditions (70+ F). And it's not as warm now, which is good for hand-splitting. This morning it was 29 F out when I started.

I haven't processed any wood yet I have just been keeping the garage filled. Temps have been pretty mild until this past week. Cold until today I did replace the gasket on the basement stove door the other night but with temps getting better I should start processing some wood. The road dept down the road remopved about 3-4 big locust trees and a few oaks. I talked with some of the people I'm hoping it turns into some wood for myself, a few of the trees were pretty big so I'm sure a big saw will be needed.

Might have stuck foot in my mouth today. They are cutting a right of way for a new home service just down the road from me. I stopped and talked to the man driving the log truck and asked where the logs were going. He said they were just hauling them off.
Well, I says to him, I live just down the road here. And he says, I’ll bring you all you want.

They dropped one load and said they will bring one more on Wednesday. I had to wave them off after two loads. I don’t know what I would do with three. Not really sure what I’m gonna do with two, but you can’t pass that up for $free.99

This is one load of mixed poplar and pine. Mostly pine though.

Lol, you'll have enough for the next 5 shoulder seasons :p

Regardless, free is free, and if you split it soon, you can burn it next winter :-)

That works, because the NC Piedmont is 5 months of shoulder season with 17.64 days of winter.

I still have some ground cleanup so I can get the rhino in the area near the hung up beech, I'll be using a throw rope, a regular rope , tree saver, cable with the winch so I'm not real close to it. The beech in picture 4482 will need felling since it will never be a good tree.

Tomorrow once it stops raining, I'll see what's left of the downed ironwood in picture 4520. I'll also see if the smaller branches of the downed maple up the hill are good, most of that tree was rotting from the base up before it came down over the winter.

Once I get out of the area in picture 4520, we have some ash that will need felling.

I bucked up some downed ironwood today and then brought it back to the splitting area, I also took care of that downed maple but just the limb wood, that is also at the splitting area. I'm hoping everything in picture 4547 is close to three quarters of a face cord.

In pictures 4543 & 4545 you can see the spikes & nails that someone used for climbing up to there tree stand.

You always have something to do when you have property that large and with that much woods.

It keeps me busy that's for sure. Hopefully I can get another two loads from that area from damaged or downed trees and then it's off to the other side.

Today where I cut the maple, I come in from the topside next time I'm up there, we'll see what's down in that area. It's usually the same chit, downed ironwood, maple and some chitty pine.

I did some clearing of an old trail because there was some ironwood down, so I took another load back to the splitting area. I also saw two maples that were never going to be good trees so I felled those.

Just up the hill from the maples are three or four ash so I felled the smallest, that load is back down to the splitting area too.

Pictures 4548 thru 4558 are the ironwood from today, 4560 & 4561 are the two maples, 4565 is the first maple bucked up, 4568 is the second maple bucked up, 4570 is the picture of the smaller ash before I felled, 4571 is one side of the top, 4572 I'm loaded up heading home and the last picture is the wood at the splitting area.

Obviously a tree stand was in the one tree at some point.

Today I bucked up what was left of the ash, took a topped off maple in picture 4577 in front of the big basswood, 4579 are the first two rounds of maple off the stump, 4582 was another ironwood I took that was in the middle of a main trail, 4586 & 87 are the ironwood & maple heading home and my last trip up I took a bad maple that was bent over, all that is home.

I'm hoping all the wood in picture 4597 two face cord, that would make four face cord this spring.

I finished splitting/hacking/noodling the shorties and uglies (very uglies) of the oak load I got earlier. These pieces go to my elderly neighbors who don't stack them but just pile them on pallets in a tent. They are happy and I'm happy as my stacks are nice and straight.

They got 5 very full wheel barrows.

Together with two friends we're getting another 20 yard truck full of logs this week - that'll be all for them as I'm done for the year. And whatever they don't want, I'll get and split/noodle/etc for my neighbors.

After that I'll get 9 cubic yards of mulch for in the yard.

It looks like you have ash, pine.......what else is in that pile?
I’m thinking it’s pine, poplar and some sweet gum. There is a piece of cedar in the bottom. I don’t believe I’ve got any ash there.
I can grab some pics of the splits tomorrow.
