Wow that's some serious work
We've put up with water stains, ice dams, leaks and drafts for 18 years and have no intention of moving out anytime soon, so you're damn skippy we are doing it right.

Do it right do it once is the saying in the automotive business. Thanks again for taking the time to post your project.

Our drywall contractor only made it over for 5 hours one day, but that was enough time for him to get new rock hung in the living room. 1 guy working solo, using a combination of brute strength and a few well placed cleats.
New can lights and electrical box for 120v smoke/CO detector in second floor hallway.

more drywall progress and some close-ups of the nasty texture being skimmed over in the hallways.

Coming along nicely.

Not many folks from Iowa on here. Who is your PE dealer?

Rabe Hardware in Blairstown, IA is providing the fireplace and chimney, when we eventually get that far.

entering the home stretch with the drywall repair.
Sanding and texture yesterday. Maybe we will be painting between Xmas and New Years.

So we have to add a little more drama to this thread.
More heavy winds a couple of days ago. I am up on the scaffolding painting when I hear a crash and the lights go out.
A 50' dead tree has come down in our front yard, taking out the power lines. Somehow, the circuit stays live for almost a half hour, before the power company arrives to shut things down. In the mean time, we have a fireworks show going on as the live wire dead shorts to the concrete roadway.
The aftermath? A 4 foot long 4 "deep scar in our road, filled with a green glass slag from the heat of the arcing melting the sand and copper wire together.
Plus look at all the wood I get to harvest!
yippee. This is God teasing me for not getting the fireplace in before winter, isn't it?

New ceiling is painted, new track lighting installed. Room is almost too bright now.
Eight 9 watt PAR30 LED bulbs replace three 75 watt halogens.
Score!

We are back in business! Mason jumped on this little warm spell we are having and got things patched up.
That means as soon as we are done painting, the fireplace can finally go in.

For the first time in over 2 months, there is no scaffolding set up in my living room.
This is a great day.
