Two new BK Ashford 30's in da'house

This seems to conflict with the BK manual. I suspect I'm on the "too much draft" end of the spectrum, and may have to install a key damper.

What's this business about shielding the pipe, begreen? I only have one small bit of pipe that's not meeting CTC's, right where it passes the lintel.

Minimum clearance for single-wall is 18". With the additional heat trapped in behind the lintel I would put up a heat shield to reduce risk of pyrolysis or use double-wall. The flash point of wood goes down over time with long term exposure to heat. Given the age of the lintel it seems prudent to err on the side of caution.

Remember the thermostat will help to control excessive draft, if you have such an issue. This is why the BK's find so much favor in AK.

Cool. Good to know! Manual lists what appears to be an un-attainable tight tolerance on draft, so I was just anticipating trouble.

My sister's King is on 25-26' of straight up pipe. Maybe a little excessive when the wind blows, but still controllable.
