Very interested to here your ongoing experiences with the Cape Cod.

As far as current experiences, have you seen the glowing andirons yet? Any notice of warpage on the corners of the SS baffle?

No glowing andirons No warpage on the corners of the SS baffle This weekend I am shutting her down and giving it a good look over for any warpage or crack in the cast iron. But it is turning out to be a good stove . Little tricky to get it burning right but starting to get it. Keep u posted

Awesome! That is good news you haven't noticed anything as of yet. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I'll be keeping an eye out for any updates.
 
^chimney smoke^ It is double wall pipe with a probe in the flue.
Questions I have been running since this Sunday, i have been keeping the flue temp around 600. Is that too hot and if not what should it be at??? just feels like it should be putting out my heat.
webby3650 At what temp would you run your stove at?? and what temp made the andiron glow?????
I ran my Cod with full loads in cycles. I would run it up to around 600 or so stovetop and then shut it down. The andirons would regularly glow, but only for a very short time after the air was shut down. If you are only seeing 450 stovetop, you haven't opened her up yet. It's got a lot more firepower available. Don't pay much attention to your internal flue temps, just watch those stove top temps.
 
Ok i was worried that if I got the flue passes 1000 degrees it would be bad. I have been running it at 450 so I will let it get a little hotter. What do u mean when you run full loads in cycles. More the cycles part. Sorry for the question noob at wood stoves

I fill the stove each time and let it burn down to coals. Rather than throwing in a few splits here and there.
Get that stovetop up to 650 or so, forget about those flue temps.

Kayakfisher, how's the cod treating you? Any issues with it? It's a great looking stove and I hope it's performing well for you. What type of burn times are you getting out of it? Do you have the fan with it?

As of right now i am very pleased with this stove.. When i first started to use the stove i was not running it hot enough but now that i am O MAN, thanks to WEBBY3650. It is heating my 1700sqft log cabin with failing double pain windows . Stove is in the basement and my master on the third floor is a 70* with full load on low burn setting. i am getting about 8 hours low burn with some very old rotten wood, just stated to use my oak and that is pushing around 12hr and even 14 hr but at that point it is just coals. No fan yet but i did modify my blower from my lopi ledyan to work with it. The only issues i am having is the over night burn i and getting puffs of smoke coming out of the main damper handle, anybody know why this is happening??????????

Sounds good!!! That's weird that smokes coming from the damper handle...!!! I'm interested why it's doing that. How often is that happening? Is it a lot of smoke?

it happens when u have a low burn going and about every 3 min all the smoke in the stove will light and the puff will come out. Out of everything on the stove the main damper is on the cheper side if u ask me
 
So every three minutes you'll get a puff of smoke from the stove on a low burn... That's not right. Keep us posted on what you find out about the cause.

Maybe Webbie3650 has an idea. He use to burn a cape cod.
 
  1. This is happening because its starving for air. The secondary combustion system can't continue to burn steadily without additional air.
Try giving it some more air, or wait longer before you shut it down to low.

Did you open up the air a little or wait a little longer like Webby said for the low burn? If so did that help the smoke puffing issue?
 
I've been burning the Cod for the first time this year and have also experienced the puffing the past few days. The issue for me started even at wide open inlet. It didn't start until recently, so I'm thinking it might be ash clogging the cat. I'm planning to let the stove go cold and giving the cat a scrub tomorrow and see if the puffing stops. Of course we're looking at 10 inches of snow tonight so I'm not looking forward to a cold stove.
