I don't have that stove and i'd defer to Todd, but either a magnet on the outside or a bolt, which i'm not sure if it really matters for that to be inside or outside? Probably whatever is easier.

You could probably just drop a bolt in each hole at least for testing. Just a loose bolt is probably fine for a test.
Yeah I just installed two screws inside the firebox.

Welp.. it is currently over firing. It has been very controlable after blocking the boost air holes but today's cold snowy weather is creating an exceptional draft. Debating on pulling wood out if it does not simmer down in the next half hour...

How about installing a key damper for the strong draft days.
Also, when the stove is that hot, how about a box fan on the floor pushing cold air at the stove?

I have one ready to install. The stove sits right next to the door in my basement. I can open it up to get a flush of cold air. I suspect it may have been loose door seal. I'm going to check it today.

I can't imagine it being any worse than a big pot of water. What is the negative to having it there?
Thermal conductivity of soap stone isn’t as good as steel. So it traps the heat.

The heat of vaporization of water is really quite high.

I will remove the large one over the griddle and see if that makes a difference. I removed one latch shim and the door is much tighter now. Two shims was too much and the door would hardly close. Right now I have two round magnets blocking the boost air intake. I'm going to try to get some bolts to drop into the interior. What size did you use Todd?

I don’t recall the size, I think I just grabbed a couple that somewhat loosely fit in there with the head large enough to cover the hole.
