I had two appointments after 1 this afternoon so I couldn't really do much so I hooked up the trail mower to the Rhino, hopefully they're done for the year. I have another area that will need mowing but that gets done with the push mower, I'll get that done before Friday.

It's time I get some chains sharpened for the saws, I think some c/s/s will start before the end of the week. The warmer weather has the bugs out again so hopefully that changes.

How do you like to sharpen? So many options these days.......

I do most of my sharpening on the grinder, especially if I'm bucking up downed dirty pine. I will file up in the woods when I'm cutting hardwood but still most of my sharpening is done on the grinder.

Full load of red oak! My trailer was about maxed out. Time to start splitting.

With some cooler mornings coming at our area, we put in two loads of white pine today, maybe another two will get in tomorrow.

Once we start burning, we won't need the dehumidifier anymore, even if it's only a few fires a day.

I did take some reading with the moisture meter on 3 different size splits. The smallest split read 16 percent, the medium size split read 17 with the biggest split at 19 percent. With the wet and humid summer we've had, I'll take those readings, especially since they've only been stacked for 6 to 7 months.

A lot's happened since I last posted here. Not much in the way of firewood prep, though.....till the last couple weeks. I've brought home pickup after pickup loads of wood since spring. Estimating 1/3 cord or so for every trip. Some days nothing came home with me cept my tired a$$ed self. Mid summer I got a load home with a 12' dump trailer. Packed up high of mostly Norway maple, some ash, and sugar maple. I have a horseshoe driveway going around the house like a moat. The trailer load got dumped in the middle of the one side. All the pickup loads were unloaded to the side previously. After the trailer load, I kept unloading the pickup on top of that load, moving towrds the road with every deposit. It was during this point I stopped trying to process wood. After the last 2 weeks, I've got the wood bucked up and driveway is almost open again. The good part is, I'm gaining ground for next year again. I had had a serious interruption of wood intake for a year.

Nice to ''see'' you all again.

Nice. Where in Smithfield? I’m down in Warwick.
I'm just off 295. There's a guy who keeps dropping trees 10 minutes from me. It's a little work but not to bad. I can get my truck and trailer 15-20ft from what I cut up. Probably 2 more full loads right now if I wanted it. Maybe a couple more weeks I'll grab another.

I had this old pine tree dropped a couple weeks ago and had the tree service cut the rounds to 16"-17". Was going to just let them sit there along the edge of the driveway, but would probably take forever for those rounds to season and dry out, so I just started splitting it. About halfway through all of it (those rounds are two deep in the photo). Have probably two years or more of juniper ready to go, but would just be nice to get this tree split and stacked and not have to deal with it anymore.

We put more shoulder season firewood inside this morning after getting a quick quarter inch of rain last night. I'll get the firewood we put in today up in the rack, tomorrow we might put some hardwood in the last rack.

At 15 - 20 ft away do you pull those logs to you? Or buck then carry / wheelbarrow them to truck?

I just buck and carried this load. When I get the time to go back for more I will likely do that. It's a tight area and he cleared the land for some paw paw trees. He has those planted and protected not to far from where I back my truck and trailer.

Since we have more rain coming in, we put in more firewood today and then I straightened out some tarps. Tonight we'll burn some of the firewood we put in about 3 days ago.

The morning temps keep dropping except on the fourth, October 2 it was 54, the third was 43, the fourth was 46.8, the fifth was 42.4 and this morning was 36.

Cleaned the chimney. Tiling behind the stove done. Need to put a piece of trim where the tiles end and need to hook up the stove pipe again, which will be slightly different given a bit of a different position of the pipe coming out of the thimble after riveting it together (it was loose before).

Got down to 1 C last night, with frost in the low field and on the roof.
Propane on this morning to take the chill off in the main house and
the pellet stove in the summer kitchen/family room. day time highs
with sunshine just above 20 C but beautiful fall weather no
complaints.

Draft lever was very sticky again on the f400. Took off the doghouse cover and pulled out draft slider. All good there. Turned out the bolt holding the draft lever (also acting as a hinge pin) was loose and worked it's way to overtight. Moving the lever slowly back and forth over and over until i saw the lever drag the bolt loose a bit. (Unscrewed it). Then all is good. Works perfect. I may need to lock tight it so it doesn't move but not sure the heat tolerance of locktight?
