35, cloudy and sleet outside. Actually quite nice, no wind.
Peaceful.
Been doing some stuff outside preparing for snow. Don't ok now if it's going to be 2" or 8"; predictions have edged lower recently.

Restarted the stove with two oak shorties and a maple shorty.
Going to be 21 tonight.

Have a lot of white and a bit of red oak and locust ready. And a lot of white oak crotches for during the day. Some upper teens highs forecast this week.

Snow started falling here about 2 hours ago. We are in the 6” -8” zone. Loaded up my inside rack with oak and ash. Second load in the stove now keeping it going to keep the bones of the house warm. 74 in the stove room and around 70 throughout the rest of the house.

Tonight low: 10
Monday low: 2
Tuesday low: 0

My initial burn is down to coals. Need to put a lot of heat into the basement, so a second 5 oak chunks are going in.

After filling up some gas cans in case th power goes out:

It's not MRD1985, but for a BK it's as good as it gets. Thermostat at 4 pm.

The house is warm from a medium cruise all day on pine and cherry. Just loaded 2 oak knots with a cherry knot in between them and opened the girl up to bring the rock up another 300 degrees.

Oak standing around the stove to get surface moisture out, it's been raining for 2 days now, along with some big splits of yellow pine for the morning.

Parmesan crusted chops in the oven and the car's packed for the morning. it's time to relax.

I've been allowing the stove to really go through the swings in heat today since it's not that cold. get it hot, then let it burn down until there's just enough coals left to relight. yesterday i just kept adding wood when it needed it without paying much attention to the house temp. 85 in the stove room and 75 upstairs:eek:

Next week the stove will be getting a workout in for sure

Threw in some small black cherry rounds I’ve been meaning to get rid of. Put those in when I got home around 6. Actually burns quite nice. Low maintenance, no risk of runaway with black cherry. Smells very nice outside too. Always like this stuff. Too bad it doesn’t last longer .

I’ve used probably a cord, cord and a half so far! Less than me!

Real cold days I’m around 30 splits per day. Milder days probably around 18-20
The thing is I don’t have to use a lot of wood to keep the house warm. It holds the heat well. Plus I don’t want to bake us out. Easy to get the main floor 77 or more. My cold start I run hot as well as my first reload than I dial things down with lower btu wood or less splits.

-9F here currently, -20s for windchill. Supposed to be negative teens for highs Sunday and Monday with -40s for windchills. Two small fires at 7a and 2p throughout the day burning oak. Few smaller splits and a couple larger on top. Just loaded oak 3/4 at 730p to get us to the morning. House is nice and toasty at 75. Cruising around 900 right now with the blower on and air almost fully closed (little high for my liking). Love wood heat. Love my PE Super.
Nice looking stove! Like my PE stove also! I have the Vista, the baby version of the Super.

88 in the basement, 71.5 up here, 69 the next layer up.
31 outside,. snowing, 3/4" on the ground.
A split of pine on the coals to get them down for the night reload.

Getting ready to load up the stove for the evening burn. Outside temp -16 and 71 inside the cabin. We may hit -30 tonight at this rate and it’s supposed to be even colder tomorrow. Looks like a little warm up into the 20’s later this week, that’ll feel good.

Wow surprised your pipes don’t freeze in those extreme temps!

Still waiting a bit longer for night reload.
Got about 1 inch or so so far. Would be nice to get at least a few inches on the roof to help insulate the one spot i'm always concerned about pipe freezing. Especially since that cold air is coming in right behind the snow.

Oak and cherry on left over coals.
There is a small oak shorty in the top left.

I’m off grid in a dry log cabin. I do have a separate sauna/bath house where my well water is piped into. The water line is buried 6’ down with insulation on top and there’s a weeping hole 15’ down so all the water drains down to that level after use.
