These adds are taking the fun outa here

Is it just me or is everyone experiencing add anger. Haven't been spending as much time here because it's so frustrating. Can't read a thread without spending half the time avoiding or crossing out adds. Some of which I can seem to remove and end up trying to read a small snip it of a post between two competing adds. Has become quite annoying

Two words- ad blocker.

Do we really need 3 threads about ads in the first 5 threads?

If the site needs to do it they need to do it. The site and information it provides is well worth it.

I see zero ads - however, I also have an Ad Blocker - a free Ad Blocker. Anyone not smart enough to download a free ad blocker is a danger to themselves and others - They should not be playing with fire.

Soooo I'm going to spend $30 a year to read advice or comments that people are giving out for free. When I start getting a check for every piece of advice I give, I'll gladly fork that money back over.
Someone has to pay to maintain the site. I personally feel I get enough value from the forum that it's worth $30 a year to me. If you feel differently you can still use the site for free with ads.
Nobody has mentioned this yet but using an ad blocker is kind of a dick move because that cuts down on income for hearth.com. Probably not significant when a few people do it but if everyone jumps on and starts using an ad blocker the whole site's revenue stream could get taken out.

I'm well aware that web servers cost money to run. If you are in "the cloud' that's even more expensive. I think the problem is, the ads are so obtrusive. If you don't run an ad blocker on your mobile phone, the ads take up the whole page. Previously they were done in good taste IMHO.

Obtrusive ads pay more.

And cause visitors to stop visiting.
Unless you provide services that is not obtainable elsewhere. So the questions will keep coming but the answers will decline, as the answerers don't*need* to be here.

But maybe that's the goal to only have moderators answer? (Who surely won't be seeing ads given their role, and thus don't know what we are talking about.)
