Air handler is an ill-defined concept.
A fan handles air.

I believe code has been interpreted (in the US, not sure about Canada) that you can't suck away air into a duct (whatever larger system it is a part of or not) from within 10 ft of a stove.
Not sure what "directly from the stove means"; 10 ft is the language.

I forgot to say that the alcove is not a regular one. Plus the system has been checked by a certified stove installator/ chimney sweep and others ...There are 5 smoke alarms, 2 in the basement, 1 on the main floor and 2 at the upstairs, one of them is beside my bed table just over a floor grid. Plus one Co alarm on each of the 3 floors. Fire dep. inspectors came many times during the past years and they said I was over protected ...

Hearthstone does make a nice looking stove.

Your right Highbeam, nice stoves. Here in Québec, Hearthstone stoves are very easy to sell. I advertised my Heritage 8024 and told to my wife : I take one month to sell it, if in one month the stove is not sold, we will keep it... hum-hum, one day after the advertisement, the stove was sold. I had a few Hearthstone stoves and they all sold very fast. One good point for Hearthstone.

I had A hearthstone pheonix for 8 years. It was lovely to look at. Got a ashford, wouldn't trade back. Ever. At about the 10 yr mark I think now? I got it when they first came out. No regerts! 😎

BK and BKVP are fantastic. No equal in customer service. Hearthstone customer service stunk, but my hearthstone dealer was awesome.

Only thing I'd swap it out for would be a princess, just to see how it would do in my space. They are pretty fugly in my opinion though.

I'm an alcove guy as well.

Something I don't understand ; in the B.K. manual it is said to not install the stove in an uninsulated basement or a shop/garage....That may cause the thermostat to be unresponsive due to constant call for heat resulting in appliance being in a constantor over fire situation...So when installing an outside air kit, the air from outside is cold/very cold compared to the inside of the house air, that cold air is send on the thermostat device, the thermostat's coil will be constantly feed with cold air so how does it do to control the stove burn rate? Thanks

I don't think the stat gets air from the intake. It monitors the air temp "around" the stove. Mine is in a little alcove w brick, there was fear I would Have a problem - (would get too hot) but it's been fine. And it's been talked about to death, running the fan tricks the stat by pulling in room air and blowing it around it, so it opens more often. If you set the stove outside (or in a really cold place that won't warm up) yes the stat would never warm up enough to close and possibly overfire. Same principle

I wish I get a exploded view of the stove's back showing the air inlet path. I my owner's manual, there is photos but not for the air intake path. BTW, is it you on your avatar, just to know .

Thank you Begreen, I should study that nice B.K. vidéo for the fed air, sometimes it looks like coming from a port at the left side of the stove and sometimes from under the thermostat channel.

It's the big rectangular bar centered below where the thermostat sits, it is open at the bottom.

When placing the stove in place, I noticed that the heavy cast iron top was not sitting at the same height from one corner to the other ones, so when touching one corner, the opposite corner was playing down or up...just like a chair with unequal legs. So I placed a nut to lock the bolts in place at the good height. The enameled top is very well wrapped for transport and manipulations so wrapping and unwrapping it may change the original bolts position cause they are not tighten and easy to screw or unscrew accidentally ...Just a little detail 4 nuts.

On my Ashford 30.2A ( why the A ??? ), the thermostat knob adjustment arrow is on the back of the knob, . More difficult to see the thing at the back ... I tried a simple on the front of the knob adjustments vision with marks on it. No permanent modifications on the stove itself.

Just a simple slide on the back of the original dial plate.
