Music with work?

On my Archos MP3 player, I have an assortment of everything from Garth Brooks to Pantera. But I don't use it much as the $%#@!(! ear-bud cord keeps getting tangled and pulling the *&^%$# thing out of my ears.
Pret' near pulls what little brains I have left out as well.

I like my Newfie music. Great local band/act called Buddy Wasisname and the other fellows. Do a google search and watch a few videos. For splitting wood you cant beat the song called, Big North Wind.

I use skull candy ear buds. To keep them from getting pulled out while i work i where them so the wire goes behind my head- then i connect the wide to the collar of my shirt with a paper clip and run the wire down the inside if my shirt. This works pretty well.


However i almost never listen to anything while working with wood. I usually just like the whole experience as is. Sometimes i will have the Yankees game on in the truck with the windows down so i can hear it while splitting and stacking.

All I could think about when you said lumberjack songs and singing was that Monty Python sketch with The Lumberjack Song...("I cut down trees, I skip and jump, I like to press wild flowers, I put on women's clothing, and hang around in bars")... :lol:

Actually . . . in reality . . . no music while working . . . other than the sound of the saw, splitter, etc. and any wildlife . . . heck, I love being outside working with the wood in the Fall and hearing the sound of geese flying south for the winter -- that's real motivation for me to work faster.

No music for me. The sounds of the neighborhood are fine. I have long work days in an opera house. It is usually dark and rarely quiet. I want outside to sound like outside.

Nice! I Like your style! Throw in a little Converge, ISIS, and Mastodon and we got a couple cord split and stacked in an hour or so.
If i'm in a more mellow mood i usually throw on some Mogwai, Red Sparowes or Explosions in the Sky.

my preferance is listening to the Dry Hill Draggers or Ballards Branch Bogtrotters whilst workin outside stackin wood or cookin on the charcoal grill. If the mood strikes me I can stop and do a little "Flat Footin" then go back to what I was doin. Some folks pays good money always tryin to find that inner peace and tranquility. Heck I find it just lookin out over the backyard at that wood all stacked up and hearin " Sally Ann" or "Lost John" on the fiddle!

I used to listen to music all of the time. I used to be able to call just about any classic rock tune after the first few notes. I worked with a lot of people that worked with headphones on. I always wondered how they could concentrate on the work at hand....(aerospace). Then when you wanted to talk or ask a question I felt like I was being rude.

Today everybody is into something other that what is going on in front of their face. Very strange to me.

Anyway... I do like to listen to music while doing "stupid" labor... things that allow me to enjoy both at the same time. I am ready for some new stuff though. Yardwork is one but like others, I also like the "call of the wild". The old classics are getting .. well... old.

I mostly like to listen to music in a controlled environment like my home theater room and concentrate only on the music.

Guess I'm not a great multi-tasker.

The post about how long it takes to split and stack got me thinking. It really depends on the music I listen to. If I'm working fast and hard, it's usually The White Stripes or live Hendrix. If I'm splitting/stacking to relax and enjoy being outside it's usually Yonder Mountain String Band, Garcia-Grisman stuff, or Wilco. Most anytime I'm working I'll have "Sticky Fingers" cued and ready.

Any favorite wood working tunes or bands?
