Jotul F55 V2 break-in fire, gasket break-out?

[Hearth.com] Jotul F55 V2 break-in fire, gasket break-out?

After first break-in fire……
Installed F55 V2 today, the gasket falled apart after first stage break-in.
I didn’t control the temperature well—it almost reached 400°F. I immediately moved the air shutter all the way to the left and waited for it to cool down.
When I opened the door, it looked like the picture……The installer said I could just buy some rutland gasket cement to fix it, it's easy?
How about your break in procedure?How about your gasket? Falling down caused by my first break-in temperature high (manual said it 200 degree but mine 400 for a little while)? Should I call Jotul manufacture to replace the door?

Is the brick changed to black a normal condition?
 
Looks like they didn’t use much cement on the gasket. It’s simple fix.

Yes black bricks are normal. That means you didn’t get it very hot. Get the gasket cemented back on and then do another low temp fire.
 
No need to replace the door but to fix that gasket right I would replace it with a new one from your dealer or just bring it to them to replace. The old gasket cement will need to be scraped off.

You should be fine with a couple more small break in fires. 400 isn’t that bad and shouldn’t hurt that steel firebox.

Thank you for your help, I will get some rutland cement to try and ask for dealer to see what will they say.

Thanks for your explain, as a beginner, I supposed it's end of the world for 400 in first time break-in . I will try the cement.
Actually, the installer guy is a professional with 30 years of experience and holds an NFI MHP certification, He said the break-in process wasn’t that complicated, then threw in 3-4 logs right away and told me to leave it open until it burned out, then repeat the same process once more. I was puzzled at the time why his instructions were completely different from what the manual said.
 
Look at the gasket residue on the steel front. Maybe some adhesive from the factory possibly got smeared onto the gasket.

First fire in my Drolet the gasket stuck to the stove some.
 
I have occasionally seen this on some PE stoves too. My preference is to use a good high temp RTV for the adhesive.

It didn’t pull off the door. some fibers stuck to the front. When it cooled I got a rag and rubbed off what I could. I opened very carefully the second time. By the third it wasn’t sticking anymore.

I like the high temp RTV solution.

first time heard of RTV, I am a rookie, thank you I will check it.
By the way, do you think first time break in 400 degree, keep rough 1 hour, is there any damage to any parts?

Today I found the little rust spot after I tried swipe the adhensive on the front, will the spot expand? Any way to fix it? Thanks for all help on this forum.
 
i'm gonna guess the paint was not completely cured before they shut the door and shipped the stove out.
 
I have had the best results with the red silicone gasket set. Personally, I would steer clear of the “cement” type adhesives wether black or clear, since I have had do-overs with them.
 
IDK, but i'd be pretty disappointed if it was a brand new stove.
 
as mentioned above, I’d take the stove door to dealer for them to fix- you didn’t pay good money to have to DIY anything so soon. Better yet- ask them to come out to your residence. Why should you have to burn calories with their responsibility?
I’m sure the temp you burned for your break in fire was ok. If it makes you feel better, when I bought a new stove for my camp I screwed up the process so badly. It almost couldn’t have been done worse ( got stove HOT due to it being quite different than my other stove). No issues with any damage.
About the rust you’re seeing- I can’t tell if it looks like something worrisome- probably not but I would email the dealer some pics so if it turned out to be an problem, you both have record of telling them about it promptly.

Thank you so much for your write up to my each concern. Installer will come tomorrow, I will see.
On the other hand, English is not my native language so I couldn't communicated with dealer and installer well, it's a reason I met these problems.
For your camp experience it's really made me peace of mind for 400 degree thank you again.
