I think you're right . . . you get used to things being a certain way . . . i.e. Summer/ATV Riding Season followed by Fall/Hunting Season followed by Winter/Snowmobile Riding Season followed by Spring/Mud Season/Black Fly Season . . . personally if I can skip any season it would be Spring . . . not early Spring or late Spring -- just the time in May or so when it's really starting to get nice and then the pesky swarms of black flies come and fly into your ears, nose, mouth, eyes, etc. -- I absolutely detest black flies.
If you like ATVs you would most likely enjoy snowmobiling . . . it's a lot like riding an ATV, but faster. I sometimes think of them as motorcycles riding on snow or Star Wars speeder bikes since a good rider and a good set up can really make them move and dance around on the trails with good control . . . now if only I could get my laser sighted in on my Skidoo I would be all set!
As mentioned it's not like we're living in the Arctic Tundra up here . . . you've got the dark forest green evergreens, robin blue skies at day, brown and gray tree trunks, etc. . . . it's really not that bad . . . and in fact one of the most beautiful scenes I think is seeing fresh fallen snow covering some evergreens on a sunny day.
And as for the heat . . . egads . . . you guys that live in Virginia and south of the Mason-Dixon Line . . . I used to complain about the heat and humidity in Maine during the Summer until one 4th of July when I visited my sister in DC . . . holy cow . . . I've never experienced humidity like that in my entire life the whole time I was down there.
Woodford . . . I've heard Kentucky is quite beautiful . . . my wife says she wants to visit there some day.
