I would be careful with a horizontal termination on the flue pipe. This is what i tried, to get going for the winter, with the intention of putting a block chimney in at a later date. Im in the process of going vertical bc the wind was actually making the stove back up, and on one occasion on last Sunday night, filled the house with smoke and fumes.
As for brands, effecta isn't the only one. Brian actually had me look at the the froling, and vigas as apples to apples comparison and they are wonderful boilers with a lot of happy customers. I went with the effecta 35 based on price point and I'm also from indiana and brian was the closest of the dealers.
I'm extremely happy with my effecta so far, and still have more things to do to get it running optimally.
After saying all this, don't think that these are plug and play. Yes, once set up properly and professionally it will be load and forget, or as close as possible, but don't disregard the garn jr. due to price as its more complete. The costs associated with a batch burner can be many thousands added to the bill, especially if it's professionally installed.
Keep on cutting and splitting wood, and do the homework.
