BKVP, This sounds like Blaze King Vice President! I first consulted Blaze King and in fact still have a ticket active with them
trying to determine what my stove model is. I sent a pic of the data plate in my first posts here showing only PEJ.
Evidently using the Serial number doesn't work either so I was left in the dark and after seeing combustors for $400 in places
I reverted to ......... Amazon! I will one day have a updated Blaze King (King model) for my shop and this one may end up in the forest cabin.
The problem is there were 6 US factories making various models. The PE1000 was catalytic but made prior to 1984. The PE1001 was a made post 1984. Both used two different round combustors. PE1002 was post 1988, when EPA first began regulating wood heaters. It too used a rou d combustor. The PE1003 was the first PE with rectangular combustor.

You get me a really clear picture of the label and I may be able to isolate the model.

100% of our units it's have gaskets. Ceramic combustors expand and contract. The gasket expands to provide a tight seal. Without it, the combustor made deteriorate.

this photo is in much better focus. my stove was made in august of 1984, if it's anything like cars the actual switch over from 1001 to 1002 may of been july!?! it's sounding like this stove is a 1002? The serial number is: N827343
BOTH PICS THE SAME; there is no option to remove one without deleting the e mail. wth?

that cat I bought states 6" of diameter, I saw a strip of the insulating gasket for $23 but got a new thermostat
instead and if the stated and my measured diameters are correct that strip wouldn't fit anyway but now, since it's enroute here I'll take the stove pipe out and fit a piece of door gasket around that cat to ensure a tight fit if need be. believe me, i'm equally prepared for this to be 1/8" over size too. I can't believe Blaze King can't identify my stove, even with the serial number.
Nothing it seems I buy is a ''direct replacement'' bolt on part.
Door gasket is fiberglass. Don't use it. The proper Interam gasket material is ceramic and it is flat, not round like door gasket. There is a very big difference between the two.

i'm not likely to wait another week or so for that flat ceramic gasket, this stove hasn't worked right yet this year, I'll do something to get it to seal.

Hell's Canyon doesn't sound like a place that should need much heat...!!! ::-)

You want to get your stove set up right but go ahead with this comment. Haste makes waste, wait for the proper equipment before destroying another expensive catalyst.

Here is some updated information. Keep in mind that Blaze King has had 3 ownership changes over the past 40 years.
PE1000 manufactured starting 1982. Used small round combustor #0330, 5.66" diameter
PE1001 manufactured starting in 1983. Used round combustor #4400 6" diameter
PE1002 manufactured starting in 1985. Used round combustor #4400. 6" diameter

If your stove was made in 1984, it is likely a model PE1001 nd uses the combustor #4400 which was 6" diameter.

DO NOT FIRE THE STOVE/COMBUSTOR WITHOUT THE INTERAM GASKET. IT WILL CAUSE FAILURE.

ok folks, i'll get the flat gasket locally and won't goof up the new combustor. thx, and brennda, Hells canyon gets cold but i'm actually on the rim in the blue mountains at around 3,000 ft. and here above the valley floor by 350 ft. it doesn't get as cold as down in the valley but zero or lower is common with 10-30F more normal and days above freezing temps in the minority so muddy days are thankfully reserved for later in the spring. The Hells Canyon (deeper than grande canyon) I can see 20 miles east of me.
And a big thanks to BKVP for my PEJ being a PE1001 with the 4400 combustor.

My apologies all but I just discovered some people responded to some of my comments here but they are not shown at the ''bottom'' of this thread and i do not know to review all two pages of posts to discover people who have responded. I think this happens when you respond with a encapsulated quote of something i previously posted on this subject so although you are there with a new post or reply I've no way of seeing it that i've discovered yet. the whole process is probably a generation in front of me so I apologize. (sort of) , in my analog opinion ANY REPLY should appear at the bottom of this thread, the quote to what is talked about could/should be included within the reply but anything else seems duplicitous, redundant and in the least, confusing.

If the fiberglass melts, it may weld the cat in place. It's good to hear that you'll be getting the proper Interam gasket.

I'm sure there is that ceramic material in Baker City or La Grande? only 1-200 mile round trip ........... life in flyover country.
