As noted the sides are relatively cool. With the chicken brooder in the location pictured, no problem at all. And you could be cooking a stew, boiling water and raising bread dough at the same time too. The swing-away trivet design is da bomb.

Plus the warmth lures the chickens, which makes preparing the stew a lot more convenient.

These girls, Black Australorps, are layers and besides you only need a plucker if you are going to butcher ~15 or more. A rotisserie feature could be useful, though. How about a pellet hopper?

Ever notice how shoveling out ashes is just like cleaning out the chicken house? You really don't want to throw the stuff through the air.

Just in case anybody missed my last post about the smoke smell issue, it has been resolved. BK has a nice fat gasket that does the job. Zero smell.

Lately with this milder weather I load the stove once a day with mixed load of pine, oak and madrone. The thermostat is shut for all practical purposes and the stove is operating on the EPA hole for a lot of the burn.

New BK princess insert owner here. After reading all of the BK treads here I was able to buy one from WV store for a great price. Thanks to a member here who alerted us to such a great deal , I bought it and had it shipped. After about 6 weeks of running it I have to say the alien tech is real! What a pleasure to burn now. No more cold starts, no more waking up at 2 am to reload. 12 hrs is easy , and I had one 26 hrs burn. Thanks to all.

No matter how many of these stories we read here, there are some who still refuse too believe! Enjoy sleeping through the night and 24 hour reloads in the shoulder season.

I am supposed to purchase the Ashford insert in the next week. The store owner told me to show up with a pickup and they would just put the pallet with the stove into the back of the pickup. Any of you have some advice on getting the thing out ? Its a level run with only one step to get it into the house from there. I was wondering how much weight the stove would drop if I remove the fire bricks etc. I'd have 2-3 guys to help unload it.

Three persons should be plenty. Make a stout ramp to slide the insert+pallet down. Take a good heavy duty appliance dolly and ratchet strap the insert to the dolly using a couple straps. Use cardboard or a mover's blanket to protect the stove from chafing by the straps. Now you have a stove with wheels that should be easy to maneuver into the house.

Our stove is almost 600# and that's the method I used. We did it with 2 men and a boy and I am not a big guy. I was surprised at how quickly it went.

Too much chance for interlocking bits, with firewood. I can tell you from experience, many years ago in my buddy’s old Chevy, it works great with gravel!

I used a furniture dolly to move mine around but I was able to back up to the deck with a trailer and roll it off and into the house. It is really easy (at least for me) to lift up on one side by myself to slide the dolly under it while it was still on the pallet.

The firebrick and cast iron face comes off really easy and lighten the load if you have to lift it onto the hearth. With it being on the dolly and on the pallet we only had to lift it 6” or so but with two people it was easy and we probably could have lifted it and carried it if need be.

I went to see another stove shop today (contractor recommended) and I was surprised to see a BK Princess sitting in the show room! I have to say in real life the stove looks decent, pictures do not serve justice. I just might fall in love with it next winter.....

The price I was quoted was 4000 before tax (15%) CAD, plus flue system and labour. Total with tax 8200 CAD. Does this price look normal?

Stove seems a little high, converted that just a hair over 3g USD, but maybe the delivery charges are high when shipping out of country

The ultra is more square and modern than the other more 70s looking models. I think it’s easier to make a princess fit in with your decor than something really ornate/gothic like a fireview.
