Just got a 15 hr burn out of my SC20 with about 1/4 load of the mill ends. I checked them and they are reading 12-15% MC (split) after sitting outside for the summer. Mostly maple, oak, and mahogany.

Question: What is the matching Stove Bright paint for the steel Sirocco? I got the bright idea to put a tea kettle on it and it seems to have taken a small spot of paint with it... Apparently it wasn't fully cured yet. I have flat black for my Duravent stove pipe.

As BKVP said, it's not a Stove Bright brand like most other stoves use. It's metallic black from Crossroads.
I touch them up all the time with metallic black Stove Bright, it's not a perfect match so you'll need to mist the whole stove top. Metallic is hard to touch up anyway, even with the same brand you'll need to do the whole top.

In regards to low flu temps, they are normal when running low, one of the older BK video's online shows this, they have a hollowed out smoke pipe, showing the smoke running threw with the by-pass open, they close the by-pass then a person puts there hand right over the smoke pipe

Wondering if the flue probe may be off and I'm getting a wrong reading off it?

I'd be suspect of the flue probe. The first and last pics jive with each other.

But then again, this is eight hours into a partial load of basswood. Maybe that's just what it is.

On the other other hand, a flue probe isn't super expensive if it concerns you.

I suspect probe meter failure. That's so cold you are way below the condensation point. The bk makes low flue temps compared to a non cat but there's still a fire down there. You don't have a fan blowing on the meter do you? 18" above the stove right?

Yes 18" above the stove and no fan blowing. Stove cranks out the heat.

Would my chimney set up have anything to do with it? I don't have the 36" straight shot off the stove. But again the stove works great.

It should read between 68 to 72 when the stove is cold. If it does not show that, then calibrate it to more less that temp.

I have 12 cords of wood and 4 tons of NEILS. Someone once said it's a good sign to be so prepared, but someone else said it's a sure sign of being nuts! I just like warmth....and a happy wife.

Lucky you! Any white stuff yet? Just blew out the sprinklers today. Hoping to burn soon with the new insulation kit. Can't wait

*NIELs- North Idaho Energy Logs. Not really available on the East Coast for a reasonable price that I've seen...They were something like 50% more expensive than Envi-blocks here.

No numbers but my new King i can rest my hand on my single wall right out of the stove for a second.

Installed the new style door latch, it's much smoother than the original. Boiled the cat in a vinegar bath, we'll see if that helps it get through it's 5th season.(need to get a spare on the shelf just in case). Also bought a new door gasket but so far the one on the stove is passing the dollar bill test.

Yes. A guy sold me truck loads of trees. Most 50' sections, maple, locust, walnut. I spent 4 months cutting to 17", splitting and stacking. The first 6 cords I split with 8lb maul....then I went and bought a splitter when the walnut trees arrived!!

Hey BKVP, is your walnut tough to split out there? Here, walnut is a very easy splitting wood. Very fun with a maul/axe, as it just pops apart. Conversely, I've heard others say the same about Ash, but the ash I get around here is very hard to split. Interesting how tree sub-species vary regionally.

I'm getting consistent 14-15 hr burns on the SC20.1 with a weighed 20 lbs of hardwood mill ends, 12-15% MC. I've been able to keep my 1000 sqft upstairs within a 5 degree range of 65-70F the entire time. Outdoor temps have been dropping to upper 30s on the overnight. I let the stove burn out in the morning since the temps outside reach the 50s and I get enough solar gain from my south facing windows.

For those curious, here's what the Sirocco looks like on full blast with a thermal camera. Note that the 536F is actually higher since the camera sensor maxes out at that:

Even on full blast you can see the major heat maker is the cat. Cool pic.

Keep in mind the Flir only shows radiant heat, which of course is #1 off glass and #2 off cat, with stove at full blast. The convection profile is driven by radiant surface temps, but it may not be an exactly linear function, as there's a square-law relationship between air velocity and convective heat transfer coefficient.

With the air velocity of his words? After supersizing the blower on my NC30 and adding a convection deck I can agree that forced air "cooling" of the stove can cause a significant loss of stove temp which corresponds with a high heat transfer to the air. The princess blowers seem weak in comparison.

The black walnut was more like eucalyptus, very stringy but it was also a batch of trees cut 6 years ago. So green would have been easier.
