@clancey if using fiberglass batts, I would gain access from the interior. To be done correctly the vapor barrier needs to be on the interior face of fiberglass. Another option may be good for blown in insulation. These days I believe shredded rockwool is used. All that's needed is an access hole in each wall cavity. Inside or out.

We are not home but my son let me know that the neighbor left more wood out at the road. He went and dragged it home and we will split it next weekend once we are back home.

It was a day of moving snow and making the mounds of snow even higher. I thought the FEL would go on but I used the plow instead.

I also plowed six different trails so it would be easier when we walk the dog.

When winter starts or before Christmas it's nice to have snow, the snowmobiles love it too. It has been a winter where we never really had a big dump of snow, just 3 to 6 every so many days that has been happening since what seems like the end of December.

I'll keep moving snow off the sides of the driveway and other areas, I usually wait until the big melt is about a week away but I'll get a good start on it this year.

Tomorrow we'll start putting in more firewood, beech and then some ash.

Beautiful day today. Bright blue sky, snow on the ground.
Had to work, but at 3 pm my friend was here with a winch and a larger bar.

We winched off the large log from the others, using another tree as anchor. Dropped it on some 4*4 sections I had.

Cut it up in firewood length rounds (though with the diameter of 24-32" they still look like cookies....).
Cut another crotch up too. Largest length of the oval there was 42". Cut those in half because I can't roll those by hand (as it entails lifting half of that over the other half...).

3 more big red oak to go, 1 normal sized (18" or so dia) white oak, and a 22" cherry. All 7 ft long.

Then I shoveled the driveway. Again. This time chips/sawdust. Two wheelbarrows full.

The deep ridges in the bark of the red oak contain a lot of sand... Using a steel brush t to clean it before I cut.

Edit, the winching (just a come along) was needed because even with my 173 lbs hanging on my peavey it did not move at all. It had to roll over a knot, and lifting that thing was just not happening.
Having the winch pull at the top of the log allowed it to roll, and allowed us to be away from it when it came down, which would not be possible with a peavey.

My chain filing is nice and sharp, but apparently not that professional, as over a 3 ft diameter log, I can get an inch of thickness change...

Since we have more snow coming in, we put in two loads of maple, cherry and beech. I did buy another 10 gallons of diesel for the tractor after filling the tractor up before I left, the RTV is full too. We had planned on putting in another two loads of firewood today but the winds picked up pretty good with the big old pines making some different types of noise so it can wait.

I did pick a few things up at Agway the wife wanted and then filled the truck up with gas , since some of our members are talking about making donuts @NickW , I bought some so the wife could eat them! The last stop was picking up our mail.

That's pretty darn good over that big of a log. I don't complain if that's all I'm off on a 16" dia😂.

A backpack blower might work, it depends how compacted the dirt or sand is to the bark

I thought about water, but the hoses are all inside, faucets shut off etc.
I think they dragged them through the sand.
By now it's frozen on too. So blowing won't work
I've used a broom and steel brush, and a hatchet to take bark off around where the kerf is going to be, but it's hard, them being so big.

We put in two loads of beech this afternoon and then I moved a bunch of snow from the yard into the woods. I'm getting ready for the spring melt early, we'll get more snow but I'll have less snow to move by starting early.

I have added 5 splits of spruce around 11 am. I'll let the stove go out in 2 hrs or so.
It's 34 and increasing to 48 by tomorrow noon. Minisplit time. Don't want to have a stove run very low so as not to overheat, but then fight poor draft because it's so warm out. Also rainy. (Going to be a mess out there, with 3.5-4" snow left from earlier plus 2" from last night - and then rain and warm.)

Tomorrow night will be 26 though, so I'll restart in the afternoon.

I see Monday and Tuesday 31/15 and windy, and 27/15.
Time to get some more oak in the garage.

Replaced a broken firebrick (my doing) in the stove before lighting it this morning. Also refilled the porch rack. Going to be very cold for the next week or so. Thought won’t be using it as much as we’ll be in northern NH for the weekend with lots of snow coming up there. Then we have a big storm on the horizon for mid next week at home , and we’ll be in Maine for a few days at the end of next week. Figured I’d load it now before I have to trudge though deep snow with the wheelbarrow.

After stacking some firewood in a 4 x 4 rack this morning, we put in another two loads of beech before the storm. The area we're getting the beech from, I had to use the snowblower to make a trail so I could get to it the last time I had the snowblower out.

The only other work I did was plow around 4 trails that I hadn't kept up, I used the RTV.

Scooped some ash. Vacuumed the cat. Reloaded the indoor rack (holds about 30 splits). Expecting 7” tomorrow and then temps dropping early next week.
