So I found this stove on Marketplace and paid $400 for her. The guy said he got it from someone that never installed it and left it in a barn. It’s a 1998 model with the old cast iron scoop and cat frame. Some of the stones are deteriorating, lots of rust but no warpage. Looks like I have my work cut out for me!

Beautiful stove.
Looking forwards to seeing a transformation to gorgeous.
Following along. Always loved the look of a soapstone stove.

Can the deteriorating stones be resurfaced? I’m not sure what would be involved in that, but I imagine people can screw up a countertop with some motivation so stone resurfacing may be a thing.

I’ll have to talk with Woodstock about the stones. There’s two layers and it may be just better to replace all the outside ones. The inside looks pretty good except one lower corner.

The baffle looks ok just needs some wire wheeling. All the bolts came out pretty easily holding up the cat scoop and bypass housing.

The top is going to suck. The frame that holds the top stones on is very corroded with flat head screws holding it on. They don’t want to budge.

Just about got her stripped down. Having problem removing the four corner rods that go down through holding the top and bottom frames together so I can remove the stones.

Working with Woodstock to get a list together. I’ll probably replace every outside stone except the back due to deterioration. Also need the whole top stone assembly.

Curious. What are your plans for this stove?
Do you have another spot for a stove? This one's going to be beautiful.

I’ll probably sell the F45 to recoup the cost of the rebuild and install the Fireview in the cabin.

Had to lay her down to get better access to those four tie rods. No bolt on top so the nuts on the bottom just spin. I ended up using a small vise grip pliers to hold the top while I cranked on the bottom nut. Ended up snapping off two of them. I’ll just replace all four.

While it’s on its side I wire wheeled the bottom and painted. Now i have to lift it back up and brace it so i can remove those rods to get these stones off.

Got her totally taken apart and I ended up dropping the flue collar assembly and breaking it so there’s another cost. Gonna start on the iron while waiting for parts.

Somewhere, there's a silver lining.
I'll say it's, "Could have been much worse."

Haven’t heard back from Woodstock in a week about my parts. I know it’s busy time of year but it would be nice to receive a reply.

Ha, yes I can!😁 we had a Fireview and a Keystone 20 years ago and the wife misses it so I have had my eye out for a good deal and found this one. I didn’t think it was going to be a total rebuild at first but it needs it.

A new Fireview is over $4k including shipping! No way I can justify that when I have a perfectly good stove but if I can sell the F45 and be a few bucks ahead I may as well go for it.
