I believe they are cast iron. Not sure exactly what they are supposed to do? The baffle or combustor pan sets on four supports and bolted down on two of them. Anyway I just placed some gasket behind them then pushed a bunch of cement around them so they made good contact. Here’s a pic of when I took the stove apart. What are the spacers made out of? I imagine you could use wood, then make them disappear in the first fire, lol.
They said wait 48-72 hour for the cement to cure prior to using the stove. I thought break in fires helped cure the cement? I’m not sure but I think I’ll just do a small kindling fire tonight to help it along then a couple small fires tomorrow.Break in fires to cure the cement?
Bummer. Surprised you didn't see that when you refinished everything.I went ahead and did a small kindling fire. Barely got the stones warm. Just before that I noticed a crack in the top lid casting.🙁
Yes, you can hear the moisture sizzle from the stove from break in. I had a Fireview 20 years ago in a previous home as well as a Keystone so I’m pretty familiar with them. I remember that previous Fireview actually sweated moisture off the side stone when I first fired it up. I haven’t seen that yet on this one.Looks nice. Seems that some new stone stove owners experience some moisture bleeding from the fresh stone when new (break in). Not sure how often it occurs but something that may happen.
Looking forward to hearing how this performs for ya. Should be a fun learning curve. Operators' manual will be your friend. Enjoy!
😂 just blew the dust off. It’s never been fired. Well except the guy that sold it to me said he built a small fire in it out in his driveway just to see if it worked. He didn’t even know what the cat was and the bypass was open. I wish he wouldn’t of done that, lots of black soot in the firebox and the glass was gunked up with something that I could not get completely off.Surely gave the cat a bath? Probably a good idea at that age![]()
Yes, I believe all Woodstocks are side loading except the Ideal Steel and their little Survival stove.Looks good........So it's side load only?
More like 20 years I think. I don’t have a cat probe just running off the flue temp. Once I hit 500 on the flue I engage the cat around the #1 air setting and adjust from there. I don’t think this old cat is a 100% because it’s taking a little longer for stove top temps to come up compared to what I remember but there is no smoke out the chimney. I have a new one on order then I’ll keep this old one for a spare. So it looks like the cat is glowing and active. How are cat temps looking? 16 years since you ran a Fireview?
