who here has had a chimney fire?

I don't think I've had a Chimney Fire....at least never experienced the "Freight Train" sound, or Black Smoke billowing. Not sure if my practice is right on avoidance, but I try to never let the flames get high enough to lick up and over the front of the top firebrick.....if need be, I choke it down a little....still running it at 400* +......figure if the flames can't reach flue.....?

I had a chimney fire in my clay lined chimney and it cracked the liner. It blew out ash that went all over the roof. I called in the chimney people and they put in a stainless liner and filled the chimney with some kind of mix around the liner that hardened like concrete.

I had one in 2011 in an open fireplace..that was way before I found this site and way before,I new anything about dry wood. It sounded like a freight train driving threw my living room. I went outside and looked up and there was a flame about 10 ft tall shooting out of my 30 ft tall chimney. There was flaming ash landing all over the roof. Lucky for me there
Was a couple inches of snow on the roof. I went inside and called 911, grabbed the dogs and my wallet and went outside. The fire dept was there within 5 minutes.luckily there was no damage to the house. A few days later I had the masonary chimney professionally cleaned and inspected.all was well. If you have one, you will never forget it and you won't take creosote lightly.

I've had chimney fire. It was scary. For non catalytic stove owners I wrote an android app which helps to prevent them, it's called firesitter on play store.

Wondering how many here have actually experienced a chimney fire. Things like the type of stove involved? What do you think caused it? And if there was any damage done, besides ruining your pants.

I've had many chimney fires. They were caused by me. To date, no harm done.
