I would stick with the Japanese brands. If you go with an automatic, make sure it has low range. Some of the yamaha and polaris did not have low.

Not sure what tires they're available in but the Carlisle HD Field Trax and OTR 350 Mag both work pretty well in the snow.

No where near as aggressive as the Bighorns for mud though.

I want to get used ATV for under $3000 budget to plow my 400 ft driveway and haul some wood around 3 acres property. No crazy terrains. Now hauling wood with zero turn but want to upgrade.
So far i gather from other guys:
Should be 4 by 4, but able to turn it off for easy steering when needed.
No less than 400 to be powerful enough.
Any models i should stay away from? Any other wisdom?

For what you are looking for I would recommend something like a Honda or Yamaha . . . with my preference being Honda if you are truly planning on mostly using it for work . . . specifically I would go with an older Rancher, Foreman or Rubicon. If the plan is to mostly work with it, then I would be sure it has a straight axle if possible and low range (which generally is not a problem with Hondas). Anything over 300cc should work fine for your needs.

As mentioned if you do elect to buy a belt driven ATV and are hauling a load be sure to use low gear.
