Having a fire tonight for the first time in a month, at least. If it is 40 or above I just close the house up and between me and the mice it's enough to keep things tolerable. Tonight the forecast was 33 so I made the call.
Mostly oak and a little walnut. Started her up open draw and wasn't feeling much heat. Closed the draw most of the way, left, when I returned I couldn't believe the heat. Dry wood, baby!
It's nice having hot water and frying pans without paying the man.

A mix of oak, red maple, Norway maple and hickory. Forecasted mid 20s for a low plus the wind tonight.

Loaded twice yesterday. Full Cold start load of oak and 🍁 this morning. 20’s this morning. House was 64 and heat calling. 68 house temp now and climbing .

We had a low of 16.5 this morning, the basement temp started out at 72 with the temps up here 66 & 67.

We used the propane fireplace for heat this morning, no fire yet today.

Last re-load for the night, put in 2 big oak splits, 1 big ash, 1 small ash and 1st small hickory. CAT still coming up to temp, hoping she burns low and slow for 12hrs.

Update: CAT struggling tonight, got it up to 788, turned air down to about a 1/4. Hopefully she keeps purring all night…. It must be the relatively high temp outside (36)… but the shop is too warm (76); so even if she smolders out it should nice in the am… and hopefully my wood glue sets, haha!

Just loaded for potentially the last night of the season (if not, Friday night without a doubt). Oak, red/silver maple, hickory. Got it going without any trouble after 14.5 hours since this mornings fire. Good night all.

We have an outside temp of 26.1 tonight, the basement temp started out at 75 with the temps up here 68 & 70. The overnight load has some Beech, Ironwood and Ash providing the heat.

The encore burned through the night, about 11-1/2hrs, but there wasn’t much left; just a few red embers and 200 deg STT. Shop was 62, which is great.

Was able to get it re-lit with a piece of bark and some kindling, she’s heating back up with a really dry oak round and 2 small pieces of walnut.

It’s still 35 here, with expected highs in the 40s; so I’ll probably leave her on low most of the day… and maybe crack a window if it gets too hot.

1/2 shoulder season load just lit off last nights coals. Tonight's overnight load will be the last here unless I do a small fire in the morning. Packing and cleaning and starting to load the truck and trailer.

Vent time...

Latest kick in the sack came yesterday when my wife's employer of 29 1/2 years decided to go back on the agreement they've had for over a year that she was going to work remotely and told her they were letting her go... So much for all our planning and coordinating and getting "good" Internet service (after 3 trips 3 hours north)... The nice speech every year at the Christmas party about "you're all family" and the touting of "family values" apparently is negotiable.

The other employees are very upset as none of them have 1/3 my wife's time with the company except 1 person and are realizing the hypocrisy of the situation. They refer to her with the pronouns "saint" and "the beloved" which is hilarious.

Luckily there's lots of opportunities in the new area so maybe it will be for the best.

But I'm still in an absolute rage...

We had 20.6 this morning, the basement temp was 72 with the temps up here 66 & 67. I made the first fire after coffee and before I went outside to cut. The morning fire had some Soft Maple, Cherry and Ash.

I don't blame you, that's just wrong.

Just tossed on 1 big piece of ash and a little punky piece of who knows what, hoping to build some coals for overnight. I’ve been nursing a smoldering fire all day, to keep the shop from roasting… had to crack the windows for a while! 🤣

Shop’s 71 right now, 45 outside, but overnight lows predicted to be high 20s / low 30s with a chance of snow. 👎
