Went out with the wife this afternoon and let the fire die out. House was 67 when we got home and she said hurry light the stove 😂. Cruising at 600 with 5 splits of oak cherry and ash. House 70 now.

This mornings load was not done yet, could have gone on for 2 more hours, but I want to go to bed.
Been wiring up electrical boxes in the basement for new led lights (replacing the old led tube light fixtures).
Working above my head in 80-85 F is tiring...

Reload with 80% box of .... red oak shorties...

Want to get some shut eye so did a hot reload at 400STT. Did use some bark to burn down some coals. Not ideal but it’s 18 outside and 72 inside. Loaded with large oak and ash splits on the bottom and big short chunks of oak and ash on top. Cruising at 650 STT now shut down air quickly on this hot load.

Very long day in the city especially with driving 3 hours each way. Glad to be home and also glad to not live there. Far too many people, far too busy. I’m not a city guy!!

Anyway, home at last and lit the stove. 20 degrees with a feels like of 14. House was at 65 when I walked in. Loaded up with cherry, red oak, paper birch and some pine kindling. Still had some coals but not enough to take off quick. Stove was 100 degrees after 17 hours.

Ignore the green lighting from the coal picture. Christmas lights..

Been up for a good half hour. Fell asleep last night early after a good load in the furnace. Woke up to a chilled house. 13* out with a real feel of 11*. Loaded up the dragon with ash, maple, cherry splits, and a couple scraps of dry red oak. House is already back up to temp. I long for shoulder season again, so I may sleep through the night.

Are we there yet?

The difference between black and white ash is very noticeable. White is much better.
I concur. My predominate stash of ash is black. It is the one succumbing to the bore beetle.
The white is unaffected.

Unfortunately it will get them to... First the canopy will thin, then die off completely, then a bunch of shoots will come out the trunk base, then the whole tree will die.

Woke up at 7. House was 66 when I got up. Teens outside. Loaded with smaller oak and maple splits for quick hot fire to warm things up.
My teens are never outside at 7 🤣
(Unless it's a school day.,)

Woke up to about 14 degrees this morning. Loaded the stove before work house basically maintained 66-68 degrees most of the night but was dropping as the stove was only 250 degrees or so at 7ish. Dont normally do this but asked the wife if she wanted me to load it as it’s a bit chilly so she gave the green light. We’ll see if she decides to add some wood later on. Red oak with some birch, cherry and cut offs this morning.

Morning splitz: 1 maple 1 alder and 1 giant hemlock split. Also added 3 thick slabs of hemlock bark . Added to the healthy coals and she took off immediately.

House 20deg C , outside -3 deg C. Snowy. Windy. Pretty nice sitting here in the dark with the Xmas tree and the T6 ticking away. Coffee and head to work in a bit.

Catch yall tonight with the evening load.

It’s pretty mild outside, currently 10C/50F

Woke up to around 14C/ 57F in the living room …we decided to just keep the fire going all day and keep the elec rads off in the lounge

When I prepped the cold start, still had some small embers, so I loaded quickly; ran the hairdryer for 2min and torched apple twigs to a quick start

Been burning a bit of everything
Poplar/ oak/ elm kindling to start

Chestnut to create longer burns along with oak and elm…plenty insect eaten, nasty hazel today too…hazel burns pretty nice…and I have quite a lot of it falling annually

The second fire is going, we have some birch, cherry with pine going in the wood stove. The temp up here dropped down to 67 with the temp in the basement at 73 before the fire. The basement temp was 77 before opening up the window to put wood in.

I loaded red oak yesterday afternoon. We had temps in the teens overnight and when I woke up the oak was pretty much gone and house at 65 and dropping. Got a heavy load of spruce in for the day on med burn rate and we’re back up to 68. This load should burn down pretty good by 4 and another load of oak is staged to go in for overnight again. Low about 30 predicted.
