10 degrees with a light breeze. House is getting chilly. Full load of ash.

More oak and maple this morning. E/W lengths this morning.
The aquarium of fire! 😂

I had a light load of maple in last night, hoping for a small coal bed this am and that worked out pretty good. House at 70, outdoor temps in the mid 30s. I plan on letting those remaining coals burn out then run the sooteater up the flue before the temps begin to plummet this afternoon.
☕️ time, Have a great day. 😎

Overnight load of premiums left a good load of coals for 4am tending. 11pm load was a bunch of honey locust, some red oak, and 2 cherry splits on top. I was tired and trying to stay awake for it to take off. I laid a split of ash E/W in front on the coals as a feeder of flames. Worked like a charm. Choked down the air as much as possible after it took off.

4am load was soft maples and river birch. Couple splits of ash and one sugar maple. Another load of soft woods just in. Temp in the low 20s with winds. Decent temps in the house.

yesterday and today were a bit of a struggle w/ work and health.
Still burning though. It was reasonably warm overnight at 38. I did not have enough wood next to the stove (see above), so I put a half-load in around 8 pm. I thought that would be enough until this morning. Today was 40 mid morning, and sunny, though very windy.
Since this afternoon the temp is slowly going down to a low of 23. The load of last night is just about done. 71-72 upstairs.
Soon a few pieces to get me to a reasonable reload tonight.

Today has been beautiful no wind and the temp at -4::C. The house got
to warm so let the furnace burndown and gave it a good cleaning.
The pellet stove is also being cleaned. But tomorrow more snow and very cold
so back to full loads of ash. Think I am ready for spring

Alright tonight’s load in and off, maple and oak with one piece of spruce (bottom left). Cold front coming in hot so I’ve got a full box after no fire today. I cleaned the flue and took out about half a gallon of ash. 32 currently with upper teens expected overnight.

🍻 time 👍🏼

Well, 22.5 hrs after yesterday's 8 pm 2/3 only load, this is what's left, before and after taking out the ashes.
A split of pine and some branches to get it going again before a full reload tonight.

Been lots of sort of punky red oak getting eaten up. Boy does it make a mess inside
Some of the oak I’ve been running has suffered from oak wilt, and agree it does make a mess while handling. It’s handy to have a little battery power handheld vac nearby to pick up after the mulch like debris that falls off inbetween the wood basket and stove.

30 outside and windy. Going down to 23.
Exclusive reload: exclusively red oak.

This is how my 4-5 year old red oak looks. Store it fresh always get bugs under the bark in the first year. Makes a mess from the brown bark dust.

Barks are long g gone, but the dust remains.

I have at least a couple years worth of standing dead red oak due to oak wilt behind my house unfortunately

Just really that outer inch or 2 is bad, I split it off the best I can and use it for campfires. The rest makes great firewood. Sad to see another species of tree affected with issues. I was just reading how northern Maine is now dealing with the spruce budworm again after a 40 year hiatus. Always something.

The outer 1-2" is the kindling for the hardwood inside.

Reactions: all night moe
Kept the stove going with a few splits here and there throughout the day. Just loaded with maple and oak for the night. Snow coming in tomorrow night. Nice and toasty running about 760 in the last pic with air all the way down blower on medium high

A couple more loads of softwood fed the dragon throughout the day/evening yesterday. Doesn't do to bad as long as I keep the air snuffed down. Overnight load was mostly honey locust again. There were a few splits of red oak as well.

This mornings load are softwood splits again. 7am the GF beat me to it. She said there were a lot of coals. I added a couple more splits shortly after while making sure the air was choked down. Breakfast has been served to the hungry girl.
