29 outside, and windy. A low of 26 is forecast.
Upstairs is 69. The pine and oak ugly were not done as much as I would have liked, but I'm tired from wind and chainsaw noise today. So hacked down the coals , spread them out, and reloaded with red oak shorties now. Hope to sleep in a bit tomorrow.

Trying Holly out to burn down coals for the evening. I cut several big holly trees down several years back. Feels like balsa wood it’s so light and dry.

Well, that didn’t work. The coal bed is 8” and growing. Just tossed in a load of pine. If that doesn’t work I’ll be going at it with a shovel.

House at 68 down from 70 at bedtime, perfect sleeping temps overnight. I have about 1/2 the load of oak left I put in last night. I turned the stat to medium from the medium/low rate I had it on. I’ll keep that rate until tonight or until the load dies out and I’ll throw in some spruce to hold over until the night time load. ☕️’s on.

We had a low of 10.4, the basement temp started out at 73 this morning with both temps up here at 66. The first load of the day on some nice beech coals is all soft maple, when the basement temp hit 79, I came upstairs.

The drafts have crept in the house. The Dragon's belly is full, and raging in the lair. Indoor temps are in the mid 60s. Haven't looked at outdoor temps but it's bitter. Last nights overnight was chucked full on top of a massive coal bed. Ash, sugar, bunch of petrified red oak,
and 2 black locust splits.
A repeat load this morning, minus the premiums. Add cherry and apple. Air intake 1/3 open. Going to open her up more so she can breath fire. There's a chill in the house the dragon can't chase away.

In the middle of a cold snap. Have had the insert and Myra both burning since Wednesday. Steady diet of oak. Got miscellaneous hardwood uglies burning in the shop.

Prefer to watch the wood stoves. This thing is not much to look at...

Put the boiler to work last night rather than the mini splits while I was at work. 4 therms used in 12 hours, about 7$ in natural gas. Turned the heat down to 63 and lit the stove about 1030. About 64-65 in the house currently and cold with wind today. Wind chills in mid to low teens today. Oak, ash and maple with pine kindling for cold start.

I here ya. The dragon isn't much to look at either. Especially with a big air plenum surrounding most of it.
Will be running Moe next season......again, although I love that stove, not much to look at without glass.

The news reports over here are saying that the US is, or is about to be, hit by a once in a decade storm. .. “threatens millions with snow, ice and brutal cold” is the phrase used.

Take care and stay safe everybody.

That’s a lot of hype. Nothing we haven’t seen before.
