I just loaded a half load of low quality smaller stuff that should get me a couple of hours. 18 degrees and howling winds...
Wow real cold out your way tonight!Giving a try to the concept of a small load started right when I get home to get a good base of coals and then packing tight for an overnight load. It's six degrees and 40 mph winds right now so I'm guessing I could probably get this done without overheating the house.

Must be very cold all over Wisconsin tonight!I just loaded a half load of low quality smaller stuff that should get me a couple of hours. 18 degrees and howling winds...
Cold and very windy! The wife and I hit some areas of black ice with snow on top coming home from an appointment. We were fine, but there were lots of folks stuck or spun out.Must be very cold all over Wisconsin tonight!
I lied it's 10. But wind chill at -7.Wow real cold out your way tonight!
🥶
Couldn’t ask for better than that! Would cost you a fortune with oil, propane or NG.71 downstairs and 68 upstairs, 15 outside with -2 wind chill/real feel. 5 ash, 1 beech and a sugar maple round.
Temperatures won't be anywhere near that come morning, but should be high enough to keep the electric baseboards from kicking on... Gotta love sprawling 1978 construction with electric baseboard heat 🙄.Couldn’t ask for better than that! Would cost you a fortune with oil, propane or NG.
Yeah that’s tough. My house is old too (1954) I’m fortunate enough I have a NG boiler with baseboard, a cold climate multi zoned heat pump, and the stove. We just use the mini splits for heat to keep bedroom above 66 degrees and then use the stove otherwise. Heat pump rarely runs during the day and minimally at night to keep the bedrooms topped up. Most of us like sleeping with the bedroom doors closed or barely open (for whatever reason). Our main rooms (kitchen/living room, open floor plan) is the hardest area to heat. Around 800 sq ft with most of it 12 foot vaulted ceilings. Stove is perfect for it.Temperatures won't be anywhere near that come morning, but should be high enough to keep the electric baseboards from kicking on... Next time I get about $5k to burn I keep thinking about a BK Ashford or Sirocco 20.2That's hilarious! What size is that firebox?
Even in singles I don't think burning 5k would produce many BTU's 🤣.Next time I get about $5k to burn I keep thinking about a BK Ashford or Sirocco 20.2
You have to roll it real tight and use a good rubber band to keep it dense.Even in singles I don't think burning 5k would produce many BTU's 🤣.
You laugh! Back in the 80's my parents had a paper log roller that was used to roll newspapers into logs and tied them up with twine! You have to roll it real tight and use a good rubber band to keep it dense.

You guys are toddlers....LOLMy house is old too (1954)
My home was also built in 1850You guys are toddlers....LOL
Records show my house at 1850. So that's when they started making a registry. If they didn't know the age, the house got labeled that year. My house could be even older.
What are you running for a furnace now?My home was also built in 1850
The construction was done with hand-squared white cedar logs
cut and assembled on the farm. We are the 4 farming
family to own it and we have been here 45 years
I heat with a wood-fired furnace and a propane backup
When I bought the house it had an oil furnace and a Finlay Princess
