Soda is my big hang up. I’ve been trying to substitute it with water. It works sometimes. I keep lots of fruit and popcorn around for snacks.
I gave up having soft drinks at the house about 10 or more years ago but when we go out to eat, I'll have a few cokes. The only other time I have a soft drink is in the spring when I go visit my grandparents on my mothers side (Squirt) they always had some in the fridge and after being up at the farm or helping with bales of hay it always tasted great so it brings me back to all the chit that went on around the farm.
 
After taking the wife out for a pizza, the weight went up just over 213. This morning the truth teller (not true teller) :oops: said 208.2 so on the weekend or before we'll have some chicken off the grill with some pasta.

Cutting out that late night snacking along with getting outside working has got me through the 210 & 11 weight. Last year mowing the lawn all summer/fall with the push mower and then washing the vehicles twice a month kept the weight off.

Only one night of cheating went on this week, I had an ice cream cone after the Rangers won in double OT.
 
I'm down to 209.4 this morning, haven't been cheating every night ==c so that helps. I told the wife I would make a baked ziti dish once I was under 210, hopefully I make that tomorrow.

I've lost faster before, I guess i'm getting old enough to slow it down now.

But yes I feel much better. I have a little trouble breathing which gets better as weight goes down.
I feel more flexible and less achey also.
My first time dropping 30 plus pounds, I did it real quick. I felt better because of the weight loss but I also felt weak, I fixed that with a few good meals without gaining that much weight back.

Once we lose it, the hardest part is maintaining it........especially when the holiday season starts.

I was hoping my weight would be at 207 this morning but the truth teller said 208.6 which is still good for me. Tonight we'll have some steaks cooked on the grill with pasta.

Just grilled a couple of steaks tonight myself. My wife has the best seasoning for the steaks. Grilled asparagus and homemade fries in the air fryer. Heck of a dinner. Been a tough few months weight wise. 30th birthday, got married in Sicily, just not feeling like cooking and getting takeout. Consistent 210-215. Really hoping chopping some wood for seasoning will help this summer. Just got an RV too, so also hoping for some nice hiking camping trips.

You've been busy, congratulations on getting married. 👍I promised the wife some baked ziti a few weeks ago, I'll give myself until the end of May and then I'll make it. The truth teller said 210.2 this morning, I'm hoping this is the week I hit 207.

My problem was snacking at night, I worked two weeks straight in the woods earlier but never dropped any weight (gained) because of my snacking. If I can hit 205 by the end of May, I'll be happy.

Thanks. I'm pretty much where I want to be weight wise but will see it through the end of May.

This winter my high was 218 so that was good, the most I've ever weighed was 234 two years in a row.

Not sure what you mean by water, but I have become a total addict for bubbley water like LaCroix.

I started having one when I got home from work to kick my 'daily beer after work' habit. That worked too.

Some days I now have two. At least they have zero calories.
 
I was referring to tap water.

Right now I’m drinking Liquid IV, think a powdered Gatorade mix. With the temps we’re seeing outside right now I want to make sure I drink liquid, but want to stay away from soft drinks. I find I’m more apt to grab the water bottle if there’s flavor.

A half gallon of mix gives me 100 calories. 16oz of Coca Cola is 200.

My wife likes seltzers. She keeps a case down in the basement for when she wants one. I remember drinking them when I was a teenager, but never got back into them as an adult.

Your 100 calories suggests you use 2 sticks. That's half the sugar and half the sodium for one day.

That's a *lot* for my taste - would not be able to stay within the suggested limits if I drink that.
 
When hiking I go through a lot of water especially in the summer and usually flirt on the edge of electrolyte imbalance. If I dont do anything I end up with severe leg cramps several hours after the hike. I have tried a lot of options and the only consistent one is using NUUN tablets (the uncaffeinated version). Not cheap but effective. It no doubt throws off my electrolyte balance post hike for 12 to 24 hours but as a normal person my kidneys flush out the excess.

Many folks think that drinking a lot of water helps leg cramps, it actually makes them worse if doing sustained physical exertion. I am not the only one, I am not a runner but this study from the Boston Marathon seems to back it up https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa043901
 
I agree electrolytes are important (try mowing the lawn in 105 F 100% humidity TN weather with a pushmower for 3 hrs straight...)
Sodium is generally only needed in such quantities if one really sweats a lot (see above).
Sugar is generally only needed if one really uses a lot of energy (see marathon).

That's a *lot* for my taste - would not be able to stay within the suggested limits if I drink that.
I work outside. Accuweather says it’ll be 94 today. I’m going to sweat out much of that salt. The sugar will be used up also.

Tomorrow will be my hard day. I’ll be out in long sleeve shirt, pants, hat, respirator, etc.

My wife likes selzer too. Maybe consider getting a seltzer maker. They keep a lot of plastic out of the environment, give you control over the water source, and greatly reduce the cost. We have the ISI soda siphon and get the CO2 cartridges in bulk. I like the ISI brand because parts are always available. The o-rings wear out after 5-7 yrs.
 
How long do those cartridges last?

We have a sodastream (per my wife's wishes one christmas). Those have big bottles of CO2 and can "sparkle" (v) a lot of bottles of water.

BTW, the website of ISI mentions "CO2 is pure natural coming from deep underground where it is produced due to volcanic activity" - my recollection of what I read there half an hour ago.

I would wish they kept the CO2 that is underground there, and that they harvest CO2 from the air.
(e.g. https://terraformindustries.com/ - though I have my doubts about the economic viabiity of this particular venture, but that's for another thread)
 
My wife like to keep the ISI in the refrigerator so that the seltzer is always cold. I offered her a sodastream but she doesn't want it sitting on the counter. One cartridge makes one liter of seltzer. We don't usually use ISI cartridges unless they are on a really good sale. The cartridges we have used have been from Czeckoslavakia, Poland, Austria, and England. The latest batch are by Leland which gets the gas from natural wells.

Drank a gallon today. 1/2 of liquid IV, then switched to water.

This worked for me too. I do sometimes go for a NA beer, but even those are in the 50-60 and sometimes even closer to a regular beer's worth of calories and carbs. I've been into "Bubbly" brand seltzers. They make a caffeinated version and even caffeinated "drops" for the soda streams and it's so much less caffeine than the Monsters, afternoon coffees, and other energy crap I used to drink. Something about a carbonated beverage after work is a really nice routine! 🤣

I was shooting for a weight of 205 for this morning but the truth teller said 206.6, still I'm happy with it but since we won't have chicken breast from the grill with a hot tomato salad tomorrow night, maybe I can get under 206.

A small walk tonight with only cereal with milk for supper along with a 15 minute session on the treadmill might do it.
