Our USSC 6041 has started burning hotter than normal. Normal heat on level 1 is normally 225-230 F. Recently it has been rising. Today it is burning at 265F. Is this a sign of a fan or something starting to fail? Nothing has changed, except the output.

Feed rate seem normal?
Flame look normal?

Check the squirrel cage on your room blower. When was the last time you cleaned it out? About mid season I have to clean the pellet dust and cat hair out of the blower fins. If the room blower is moving less air the stove will be hotter. This is not my blower but it gives you a good picture of what can happen. I usually get a handful and yes it comes out together like in the second picture.

We have checked all of the control rates and everything is set to default numbers, as they have been all season. We did have to replace the room fan in early 2024 (the stove is 11 yrs old). The flame looks good, the burn rate may have gone up some. We did a complete cleaning inside the stove and the outside pipe. The only real noticeable change is the output temperature.

I chased a too fast feed rate, thought was my flue, thought was door seal ... then I recalled the OEM installed thermo couple the dealer sent me a replacement for in the '90s. I kept the OEM as it looked OK, and in recent years tested OK. I did cut my feed rate back just a hair, cured it. My stove had started only burning pellets partially, not to the fine ash I expect. Flame was lazy too, and a few times she got pretty hot. There were times it fed constantly and I'd have to dump the ash pan of black pellets daily. I think my issue was that the 1996 TC had gone bad, and the scant used OEM 1992 one was as good as it tested. I see no more partially burnt pellets unless I knock them out of the burn pot as I scrape it.

Never had my blowers look like those above, but I'm allergic to cats.

Do you use an OAK/ outside air? It may just be the pellets if you have not changed settings. Do you hear an abnormal sounds from the fans?

No, and we are close to finishing a one ton pallet of pellets we bought at the beginning of the season.

Yes we use an OAK/outside air. As I have stated, we have had this stove since it was new in 2013. No strange noises. The only indication that there maybe something wrong or beginning to go wrong is the heat output. Something we watch on a regular basis as it tells us how well the stove is operating.

If it has no indications of something failing i would have to think it must have been the pellets. I would keep an eye on it and continually ck the blower.
