No we are discussing the durability of vc stoves which is pretty important to someone considering one.

I just do not understand whether you are trying to educate potential buyers here or (in my opinion) are verging on pulling a "woody" in terms of bashing a brand.

Not bashing just telling the truth about my experiences working on vc stoves versus working on others. Their tube stoves are very good and durable I have no issue with them at all.

I think it was in the third season, but I disliked it for most of the time before that. It was getting far too hot when it was brand new. My brothers does the same thing. They overfire because their tstat doesn’t keep the temps in check on a load of dry wood, you’re not expecting it, and wham you have a glowing refractory and an overfired stove that blows out the gaskets. Never again. This has never once happened with my BK cause the tstat doesn’t allow it.
I think the OP may have left the room. FWIW, I have known a few of the cat 2550 owners and in general they are happy with the stoves and rebuild frequency for them has not been terrible, in the 10-12 yr range. The cat stove is easier to operate than the downdraft and I will differ with bholler here and say that it is the best looking classic American made stove on the market. That's just my opinion of course and the fact is you can't heat with just good looks. VC did make a tube version in this classic body and it was a good stove. Unfortunately it only had a short life, too bad.
American made yes i would agree but i think the hamptons and jotuls look every bit as good. But i am not by any means saying they dont look good. And their casting quality is second to none. It is just their engeneering i take issue with.
I love Jotuls but that is a decidedly gothic look. Like a church window. For some homes it looks a bit out of place. My favorite European stove look is the Quadrafire Isle Royale (Dovre design and castings). The Quadrafire Explorer series is pretty good looking too.
