I am taking a Industrial Boiler class and asked the instructor about this and he said it was water hammering. He recommended I purge the boiler again, clean my air seperator, and maybe increase my water flow. He said the hammering creates a shock wave that is like "driving a car into a brick wall at 300 MPH". Doug
 
Does he describe the cause of "hammering". I was taught that boiling is the cause.
