I just finished burning a bag of Stove Chow. No real complaints. Heat seemed OK, fines were no issue (seemed to be about the same as the Hamer Hot Ones). Haven't checked the ash, but that's the least of my concerns. No conclusion on clinkers. For $218 at HD, the Stove Chows don't seem like a bad deal.
They sell these every year my home depot in NE PA. These are the only pellets I will buy from Home Depot, not as good as the Hamers I like to use but I have no complaints with them. I have been told they are all hardwood. I got my ton for $218.
what do people think of these stove chow pellets.i've been burning Applacians whick are put out by premier out of pennsylvania which i was told is associated with energex.premier is clearly marked on both bags but no indication as to if they are hard or soft.i assumed they were hard judging by the open bag on the floor.i picked up 2 bags to try.

I think you find the Premier and the Stove Chow are pretty similar. I did anyway. Decent heat and about .5 to .6% total ash content. There better than a shoulder pellet but not quit a cold season. With the price there going for in my area and the 10% coupon from lowes. Its hard to pass them up. Something like $176/ton for me. Just don't have the room. So I am getting 25 bags anyway and stuffing them somewhere!

I also found a few somersets left over at lowes, they had about 6 bags, i bought 3 bags and for some reason the somersets had more ash overall. Like jay said, for that price... man, temptation is high....!!

having never seen stove chow in this area before i was surprised to see them at lowes yesterday.bought just the 2 bags to try.
then last night on my way to get pizza was passing by TSC in taunton and they too are loaded up with stove chow

well, our first stove is being installed tomorrow, so i'm not a lot of help, but i picked up 2 bags of Stove Chow to try. $3.92/bag or $196/TON at HD on Berling Turnpike in CT. seems like a really good price. i got 3 other brands to try too.

Could the white wood mean Basswood? It is very white, and has a very distinct odor. Common carving wood.
Bought 3 tons of Stove Chow from HD for 242.00/per. On Long Island that is a very good price for any pellet. I had burned Somersets and Green Team, that I bought by the bag, before the 3 ton purchase. The Stove Chow seem to burn hotter and have the same ash or less. Fines also not an issue. I have not had any clinkers like I did last year with a poor batch of NEWP's from the Schuyler NY plant. I think I am going to be very happy with the Stove Chow.

I just picked up 4 bags of Stove Chow and 2 bags of "Clean Energy" hardwood at the Lowes in Worcester (Lincoln St) to experiment with. $4.38/bag for both kinds. They also had "Premiers" (the bag said they were pine) and "Maine Choice" blend, but I held back on those.

As for those Premiers, I think you should give a few bags a try...I've burned them, and they're not a bad "shoulder season" pellet. Wasn't wild about the Clean Energy, but the Stove Chow's surprised me somewhat....better than I expected.

I have tried three different bags of pellets so far. Stove Chow from HD for $4.58 a bag ($229 a ton), Natures Own from Lowes for $4.58 a bag ($229 a ton) and a brand packaged and sold by Tractor Supply said to be Hamers for $4.38 a bag(($229 a ton)must buy a ton to get this price). Pellet burning is too new for me to notice any difference between these pellets. I called the local Hearth and Home near my house and he said he will be getting Barefoots and Dry Creek in a week and they are $290 a ton. I will pick up a few bags to try them out. I told him about Home Depot and the Stove Chow that they carry and he surprisingly said that Stove Chow was a good brand. Would you guys consider the cheaper pellets that I mentioned above to be good enough to get me through the dead of winter or do I need to spend $290 or more for a better pellet?. I ask this because I see a lot of people say that such and such is a good shoulder pellet but for really cold days they use Barefoot or Okies or Cubex.

Barefoots is one of the best performance brands out there but with that stove you have i would be buying the stove chow with around $61 difference per ton, but is your choice. And if you get a lowes coupon well then even better.

When the picking is ripe one must pick or someone else will pickum from you! I just had too! Was holding out for the Somersets but just couldn't take it anymore! I really only needed some shoulder pellets so these will do more than just fine! I should be able to run them right up until the cold season. Cubies or Hamers will take over from there.
