Invisible fence collar. Beeps when she gets close to the buried wire, gives her a tickle if she ignores the beep. Only ever saw her get shocked twice in 15 years, she usually minded the beep.

I do NOT miss those stoves! I was just more amused with being new to wood stoves, back then, so I took more photos.

Thanks, guys. This being one of two litter-mates, and the other still being healthy at 15-1/2 years, lessens the blow a bit for everyone (esp. kids). The other one is getting lots of extra attention now, probably missing the company of her sister while we’re at work all day.

While not the same as a dog I did have a pair of mice that were litter mates. I had to get the survivor a companion mouse because she was just laying around refusing to eat. It was one of the saddest things I've ever seen. Those mice made two trips to Maine together before one of them gave up!

I have several good friends from China, and can tell you they love dog meat, but won’t eat cats. It’s not because of any moral or religious conviction, it’s just that cats taste awful.

A rabbit adopted us before winter hit hard, just hung out under the cars. We thought it was a snowshoe that hadn't finished changing but it did so many things that no wild rabbit would ever do, like sit out in the open as you walked by and take lettuce from your hand. It went into the barn a few times looking for the bag of food we bought so we just locked it in before a storm hit. We figured a domestic bunny wouldn't make it through a Montana winter, so we have a critter now. It didn't take long for her to find the stove.

My labs favorite spot is right by the stove after a good day of being outside. My younger one has been a retrieving machine the last week or so I have been off on vacation so more free time at home and outside. After working the way he does the first thing he wants is fed and then curls up next to the stove. Not to bad a way to spend your life.
