SS Exterior Chimney - Anyone Got Experience w/One???

Really appreciate the discussion in this posting. I'm starting the install of a thru wall supervent chimney. Any one want to offer advice on how to attached the all support bracket (under the T) ? Should i (1) screw thru the vinyl siding, or (2) mount some vertical 2x4s across the top of the siding and then screw the bracket to the 2x4s, or should i cut out the siding and mount to the plywood wall ?

Any advice for this newbie would be much appreciated. Thank You

I think I would cut the siding around the tee support so you can get a clean fit/bond to the underlying siding - making sure you grab something solid behind it. You could then use flashing and caulk to seal where you penetrated the siding.

I didn't have to deal with siding for a couple of reasons. One was that the tee is in the foundation part of the addition vs the wood framing and second, I am having a chase build around my chimney pipe and that will get the siding - nothing betwen the chimney and the house's wood framing/siding.

If it was me, since this is new construction, I would definitely stay inside with it. No 90 degree elbows to effect draft. Very easy to chase the inside with drywall. Matter of fact it's almost no cost.
