Shorties for a N/S load ?

Yes they are indeed an inconvenience. But those of good hardwoods are so worth it.
What about bringing them in with a plastic tub? The round kind with rope handles.
Thought about it. I have a bucket set aside right now for the next time I load with shorties. We’ll see how it goes.

That looks like a good idea. I just through my shorties on a pallet but they always fall all over the place.
How hard is it to pull wood out of that?

I used metal tie wire to join the ends up, I just cut the tie wire from the top down and make a little door to reach in and pull out pieces, not really a big issue for me.
 
Yes agree that is the downside of E/W, but not too hard to mostly overcome with some experience in strategic loading and another benefit of using top down as it's easy to load for inner collapse vs. collapse onto the glass.

Reloads on large coals are a bit more finicky when packing on new loads. N/S wins for fast easy reloads for sure.
Right on. Aesthetically, the F400 wins and provide a great fire view with awesome secondary display.
