I have had my VC Encore 2040 CAT-C for about 3 years. While removing the catalyst to replace it I noticed a screw sticking into the empty area that is below where the catalyst sits. It appears to be coming from where the temperature gage is attached to the back of the stove on the outside. Does anyone know if this is normal? It doesn't appear to be hurting anything but heat may be escaping from around it? Its low enough that I don't believe anything touches it.

Do you have any pics? I posted some a few weeks ago of my 2040-cat-c, when I was installing a temp probe, you could reference those.

Thank you for your reply. If I am understanding the installation instructions for the temperature probe, then maybe the screw is actually the probe? And it is meant to protrude into the box that sits below the catalyst?

Yes, that’s the catalyst temp probe! It should be in that space (below the catalytic element, proving accurate temperature readings).
