I filled mine using my friends 300 gallon water tank and I made 3 trips to my house and back to his to fill my whole system. He had softened water in his outside spigot, I do not. I transferred the water with a simple water pump. Took about 1 hour per load to transfer.
 
Deionized waters what you want, not softened water. Water softeners add sodium to the water when it removes the hardness. This leaves the water with high conductivity, increases corrosion potential.

Some of the suppliers will rent the DI towers or sell water in 55 of 250 gallon totes.
