Recycle car oil in chainsaw (bar)

The issue with waste oil isn't the oil itself, but rather the contaminants that are in it from the engine it used to be in... From my understanding the OSHA and EPA rules on contact, exposure, disposal, etc. are MUCH more stringent on waste oil than they are with new oil.

Used oil is also considered a causitive agent for chemical contact dermatitis (aka skin rash) to a MUCH larger extent than fresh oil...

used oil is free. all the arguing in the world wont beat that. i know loggers and non-loggers here that use used oil all year round hot or cold and have used it on expensive saws that never broke for 30+ years. bar oil is like wearing a fancy suit to the machine shop. it cost to much to waste and if you are so parinoid that you think the oil might be dirty go by whatever-w-40 you want at walmart for atleast half the price of any bar oil. i cant see a real argument for bar oil here.

It's not like it will explode and leave writing on the ground saying "I told you so". If you want to wear out expensive parts to save a few pennies, it's your prerogative. You help keep the economy going.

Back in the 70's I used to help a buddy he would put used motor oil in for bar lube... yuk. To me it had a bad smell...ruined the taste of your hydro.
