Found softwood pellets and tried them tonight has been burning for 5 hrs now and wow what a difference no build up as of yet..... I actually got scared never saw the stove burn this way thought it was going to go out..... I guess I'm so use to the burn pot filling up I never really got to see how it's suppose to burn when it's burning correctly..... And above it all the exhaust smells better lol..... I'll keep u guys updated but so far so good.... The place I got these pine pellets from only has three ton left so looks like I'll be buying them if everything goes good tonight

For the last month I felt like the father on The Christmas Story fighting with the furnace...... Only I've fought the pellet stove lmao!!!!

I do a quick scrape of the burn pot every 6 hours or so... I just do it while it's running. This is my first year with pellets, before it was a wood stove and I will say even with scraping the burn pot and cleaning this is so much less work than a wood stove.. I burned 9 cord of firewood last winter. Getting up a 3 AM to load the stove and coming home from work with a house that's 50* and have to fire up the stove and warm it up and always stay home baby sitting the stove.. Never mind spending every weekend out dropping trees cutting them and splitting them.. I don't think I would ever complane about scraping out a little ash a few times a day.. Buts that's just me

Good find. Love the smell of the exhaust, an added perk of the pellet game I wasn't expecting. My garage smells amazing with the two ton of pellets I have in there too. I've only burned softwood pellets, I almost traded my neighbor for a few bags of hard woods, glad I didn't.

I agree I opened the bag and was like wow that smells awesome...... This will defiantly cut down on the pot scrapping for sure.... like I said I have never seen the stove burn like this...... I think I'll def be buying the last three ton he has in stock..... And then the search for anyone else who sells softwood because he said he's not sure that he will get anymore this year

Id like to thank everyone for the help.... I def won't be burning hardwood anymore and probably wouldn't have tried the softwood if it weren't for this forum and the great people on it...... I'd still like to get my hands on a modified burn pot tho!!!

If you open the door real slow while it's burning especially on a lower setting the flame will get real lazy. Give the burn pot a quick clean but leave a bit of coals in there close the door and keep on burning without having to go thru a shutdown and restart

That's great to hear bridge just hang in there and crank that stove up and enjoy the heat

For those of you that keep asking about the modified burn pot ...... I'm not making it for others at this time due to testing and changes that I am still making.

I'm testing the air wash mod -- hence this being prototype 3 of the burn pot. I've enclosed pictures here so that those of you can see what I have done. And for those of you that want to make your own, you can use these as a base template etc.

Thanks You for the pictures..... my buddy has a machine shop and is good with this stuff we may play around a bit over the winter and see what we can come up with..... Like I said my stove is running a ton better but I'm screwed now if I can't find softwood pellets so I'd like to make something that would allow me to run both...... But for now this is working so far
